I signed up for BT broadband on the 24th of march coming over from TalkTalk where i was paying £10 for 13mb download and 80gb usage.
I come across to bt for the unlimited package even with me getting less speed i thought it would be worth the extra £20 a month for more usage.
When i got a email on 17th april saying i had used 100GB and now being capped at 1mb in peak times i could not beleave it.
Do you even know how quick it is to use 100GB when you buy games online watch sky player and so on this most be a joke i could understand maybe 200GB but 100GB on UNLIMITED and paying £29.99 a month for just about 8mb (which drops up and down all the time)
I think this is unfair not fair at all i would like the cap taking off as i am paying for unlimted.

Indeed you are paying for unlimited and are recieving unlimited... at a decreased speed. BT have capped your speed, not the amount you can download. Everyone has their own opinions about the 100GB limit but there is nothing that can be done about it. The best thing you can do is migrate over to an LLU company such as Sky. You should have recieved an 80gb warning email so you could vary your usage accordingly. Personally I get a bit cautious with my usage because I can download at the full 850KB/s but I have the Thinkbroadband Meter so that tells me my network usage. I suggest you check it out to avoid future occurrences if you stay with BT: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/tbbmeter.html
Good luck ![]()

Had the same issue Extremist. I got a virus on my pc around the 25th of march and was unaware of the 100GB cap at that time. I buy nearly all my games on Steam and therefore are download. The games I was playing at the time added up to about 50GB which I spent a couple of days downloading and as you can guess in a house with 3 active computers we easily went over 100GB.
The 100GB limit isnt in keeping with modern Internet usage. As Chris says though, the unlimited only applies to usage (you dont get charged for going over the cap) but 30 day penalty is a joke, 1 week, max 2 weeks is plenty considering its a 7 hour penalty a day.

Personally I preferred my previous ISP's 30 day rolling restriction for exceeding the FUP so it could be lifted with in a day by easing off the usage. I can understand a usage limit for peak periods, but including off peak as well!!!

If you want Unlimited, no cap out of peak time usage, go BT Business. As you can see from one of my previous threads, I spotted that they (BT Business) have worded their FUP to infer than you can only be capped if you use the service excessively in peak times. Out of peak times you can Max Out as much as you want.

Not to bad now back upto 8MB being out of peak hour's but i agree with everyone moden day internet users have more then one device connected.
And with more streaming networks now ie. itv, bbc player and sky watching them each day between everyone can amount to over 10GB with one football match on sky player is about 2GB.
I think BT should have a rethink about there usage i would say 200GB and if you exceed that a 3MB cap would be fair also depanding on your exchange.

Infact that wouldn't be fair because everyone would be on different caps and therefore, BT would be giving a different service to people who are paying the same amount. The size & capacity of the exchange should have nothing to do with the cap you are referring to because it would simply be silly. It would be like me selling fuel at a fuel station and excessive customers would have a certain amount of fuel they can buy within a period depending on the size of the fuel pump they will be using.
If that ever came into effect from BT, I'm wondering if there would be legal issues involved.

Thanks to The Gadget Show, Sky has no fup and will not cap connections. Like most here I use Steam and D2D for my games and only downloaded them at off peak times thinking this would ok but no. BT make a big noise about capping you at peak times for being a heavy user but even if you try to be good with your internet activities they will still stuff you.

well if in 6 months BT havnt moved into the digital age I think we might be giving Sky a ring ![]()
