Auto-login broken?

I had auto-login enabled for some time, but suddenly I'm being asked to enter details on each visit to the forums. The auto-login options in My Settings still say, "You can turn off auto-login ...". If I choose to turn it off I get a success message which also says, "To re-enable auto-login, check Remember Password the next time you log in." Trouble is that this option does not appear on my next visit. So it seems that the system still regards me as on auto-login but it isn't doing it.

I can set my computer to remember details, but prefer to enter the site automatically. Is there a general fault, or is it just me?

Thanks Craig.

I've made a bit of progress. I normally access the forums via a bookmark to community.bt.com; the login box there does not contain a Remember Password option. But I discovered that the link in community email notifications to community.bt.com/bt/user_subscriptions brings up an option to save login information. Checking that and signing in from there has re-established the auto-login feature which I had lost.

It does seem that something needs fixing, but this will do for now.

Cheers! Alan

Re: Auto-login broken?

Hi again Craig.

Just to let you know that this problem still exists. I'm finding that out quite regularly because my auto-login setting somehow gets cancelled every few days, requiring me to set it up again each time!

Cheers! Alan

Re: Auto-login broken?

Hi pottyperson,

The reason this is happening is because the login box on front page does not have a remember me tick box anymore.  You may have cleared cookies etc which mean settings to be ‘remembered’ were changed.

The only way to set this back up now is to log in via the login page which can be accessed via the link in KerryG's post here; http://community.bt.com/t5/Forum-Guidance-Ideas/Community-Login/td-p/268959

Thx

Craig

Re: Auto-login broken?

[ Edited ]

Thanks for the explanation Craig. I do clear cookies regularly with CCleaner, which I've set to keep important ones including BT's. I tested this the other day and found that auto-login still worked immediately afterwards. So, whatever is causing the occasional loss of auto-login function, it's not my cookie cleaning.

Never mind, it's but a minor irritation, which I've partly overcome by saving the alternative page as a bookmark.

It doesn't always remember it even if cookies aren't deleted.

As mentioned in that link (to a different login page) the implication is that the remember me tick box would be put back on the main page. It's there when you reply to a post and find that you need to login again.

The login box on the front page has never had a "remember me" checkbox. I usually log in when I respond to a message, which does have it. I too noticed that it wasn't allowing me to stay logged in, so cleared my entire history, cookies and all in case it was that. Didn't help.

Re: Auto-login broken?

This problem has cropped up again with Google Chrome, my default browser.

I log in to the forums via the screen with the save option. This has been working well enough, usually remembering me for some days. But this week login info has been lost whenever Chrome is closed. I've eliminated the possibility of a cookie issue.

IE9 is fine. In fact, if I sign in with IE the saved info then works for Chrome also.

It's not high priority, but any ideas would be interesting.
