Hi, I know what I'm going to ask is not a BT issue but maybe someone can help.

Openreach will soon be running fibre to a caravan park across their private open land. It'll be passing within a couple of metres of my house. I've been told the caravan park will be funding the run across this land.

I'd obviously like to be connected but can't find a way on the Openreach website to ask the question. Should I contact the caravan park or is there some other way of registering my interest?

Thanks

How do you know the caravan park is getting ‘fibre’ , and on what basis is it being provided ?

If this location is getting a fibre leased line , that is not the same as native FTTP , so no way for you to be included, if the location is getting FTTPod , then like a leased line they are potentially paying towards this network being provided ( something not done on a native FTTP rollout ) , and although some near neighbour could benefit, it’s not likely in your situation .

An example of FTTPod benefiting neighbours, would be where someone pays for FTTPod for their address , and everyone on the same distribution point ( for simplicity sake a telegraph pole ) also benefit, because the network provided takes those immediate neighbours into account , others neighbours , even if extremely close but not immediate neighbours , ( in this example not served from the same pole ) , wouldn’t benefit.

It could be a FTTP CFP , (community funded project ) , again if you were not canvassed about being included ( as the community pay towards the installation of the network ) it’s not likely to include your property, basically if you were not asked if you would be prepared to contribute, in many cases these contributions are covered by DCMS ( Government ) vouchers / grants .

So hopefully, although it may seem obvious to you that if the ‘fibre’ runs past your home , you must be able to benefit in some way , that’s an overly simplistic view, and there isn’t a way for you to enquire referencing this caravan park , the option open to anyone , of contacting Openreach and asking about FTTP availability in your area is available to you.
