Hi Everyone,

Over the weekend we have received reports from BT customers that they have come across a scam which presents as a survey popup within your internet browser.

Reports state that after browsing the internet a survey popup box will appear which includes BT branding and the message it delivers is that you have been selected to win a prize as we are celebrating our anniversary. It then requests that you answer a question or confirm bank details. This scam is not limited to BT customers, it appears that the scammer detects your IP address and then will adjust the messaging to fit your provider.

There doesn't appear to be a correlation as to the web browser that this scam will appear on, nor is it obvious how the popup is being generated.

If you come across this particular scam please carry out the following actions,

If you have shared your bank details then contact your bank ASAP

Take a screenshot of the popup message, copy the URL link and email both to phishing@bt.om

Run a virus scan on your device

Check your browser extensions

Clear your internet cache and cookies

Here is an example of whereby the scammer detects a BT customer,

Stay vigilant and spread the word to your family and friends so they can protect themselves as well.

Cheers
