It's a samsung galaxy A20e, with BT but have a feeling that I have not backed anything up. I'm not a tech person at all and stupidly assumed that it backed up automatically. Had a thought that maybe I could use my old O2 A5 but I'm now being asked for a pin!

What kind of phone is it? If it’s an iPhone your pictures maybe saved onto the Cloud, although not necessarily all of them if you reached your storage limit, which is easily done.

Failing that you could take it to a Phone Repair Shop who might be able to retrieve the Data on it.

Logon to photos.google.com from a browser and you will see all the photos that have been backed up
