Hello,

Hoping somebody can advise me. Openreach have spent about 18 months before finally finishing installing FTTP cables 3 weeks ago. The Openreach website says "Great news. Ultrafast Full Fibre is available at your address" but when I check BT and phone them I'm unable to order anything besides copper broadband.

The saddest thing is the best thing faster internet would be good for is...work. I've been stuck at maximum 12 mb/s for years and it's bad.

Hope somebody can help me or advise what to do.

Many Thanks,

Chris.

Then you must have used your address in the checker, as you would not have a BT Retail phone number.

FTTP is supplied by Openreach, to all providers, but not all sell it. Have you asked your current provider?

If your current provider cannot supply FTTP, then you would need to move your services to BT Retail, by ordering a phone line to start with.

Once that is active, then you need to enter the BT retail phone number into the checker, and that will tell you whether your specific property can actually get FTTP.

I’m not quite sure I understand. Openreach have installed it and say providers should be able to sell me products, when I speak to BT on the phone they say openreach is showing full fibre is available but can’t order yet as BTs system is saying I can only get copper

No idea why that should be.

You could always ask the BT FTTP team on 0800 587 4787, they may be able to say whether your address can get FTTP.

I’m in the exact same situation here… installed on the street (in fact someone already has it 3 doors away with Sky, 500mbps down and 60mbps up).

Sky says we can have 500mbps down (the same as my neighbour), zen says they offer 150mbps but BT website says we can’t have it.

I’m also with BT and called them to upgrade. They said they cannot do anything until the BT website says it is available. So it seems it’s just a case if the BT website not being up to date.

The agent said he can fill a form out which takes a maximum of 5 days for openreach to get back to them and they would call me back. Done that twice now and as usual with companies these days, no one calls back.

Did you get yours sorted yet?

Hi

We've got a similar issue - some ISP's say we can get FTTP @900MB, BT, and some other's say we can only get FTTC. It's been like this for over a month now. How long (approx) did it take to get ALL of the ISP's showing as available?

Thx

Sorry for the late reply, the email notification went to the spam folder 🙄

The BT wholesale checker is still saying FTTP not available in our street, even though we've had flyers from OR saying it's been done and is now available to us, and it seems that's the important one as the majority of ISP's go from what it says on there!

Just wondering why the delay on them updating their database to show it's available and/or if there's any way to gee them up! It's been weeks since OR did the necessary work...😩

the database is updated by openreach not BT Retail. you are not the first to post about receiving 'FTTP available' notification only to find it is not available to you. The flyer covers an area where some can and some can't get FTTP. just need to keep checking using the link I posted

It’s possible ( but not that likely ) that the Openreach network is complete, so the FTTP network is complete between the OLT ( headend ) and the CBT that serves your address , but the interconnection ( cable links ) between the OLT and ‘BT’ equipment hasn’t yet been installed , this would give rise to a situation where OR can state what they provide is ‘complete’ , but you cannot avail yourself of it , if you chose to use an ISP that hasn’t yet got the means to connect its own ‘network’ to the Openreach OLT….or it could be mis matched addresses , systems not yet updated with this new availability etc.

@iniltous Just be talking to friend from a different part of our (large) village, who has got FTTP. He's with Sky but doesn't get near max the 900mbs plan he's on. He mentioned this cable link you referred to, and said he thinks they've installed a 1gb link but it needs updating to a 10gb because of the amount of orders they've had 🤷‍♂️

Is it possible to contact someone to see if this is correct I wonder...?

Obviously any Sky customer would have to bring up any perceived issues with Sky themselves, it’s not really the place to discuss Sky as it’s nothing to do with BT .

FTTC ( Fibre to the cabinet ) generally uses the same headends ( OLT ) as FTTP , so it’s possible that when a new FTTP area ( PON ) is provided, any ISP that already has cable links to the OLT from their own ‘network’ ( assuming it’s not a brand new OLT , but an existing one already ‘running’ FTTC services ) could use the same cable links for their FTTC and FTTP , but obviously capacity could be compromised, if you simply add on more customers with greater bandwidth requirements , I did see some speculation on another forum that an ISP ( cannot remember which one ) currently only offers lower bandwidth packages (so not the 900Mb) because the available cable link bandwidth would be seriously compromised if all their customers , (FTTC and FTTP) were routed over it (or them, they could have several CL’s)
I don’t know , but it’s possible your friends ISP has simply routed FTTP traffic over their existing cable links and the ‘insufficient’ bandwidth available is limiting throughput, if they ‘pay’ for 900Mb , then thats the rate at which the OLT ‘talks’ to the ONT , the speed the customer experiences is nothing to do with that connection rate , so ‘speed tests’ etc , would reflect real world speeds , possibly affected by insufficient backhaul, not the connection rate.

As far as BT not offering service yet ( presumably it shouldn’t be too long before it shows on BT Consumer ) perhaps they don’t offer FTTP until the extra bandwidth necessary is available , in other words they add new cable links , rather than simply forcing all traffic along the existing backhaul, but again it’s pure speculation, the DSL checker is a BT Wholesale checker , BTw being the provider of the ‘backhaul’ for BT as well as many other ISP , some major ISP can and do use BTw in some places and third party or their own backhaul in others, you would think the DSL checker shows the BTw availability, not just BT, as BT are just one of many ISP’s that use BTw, so it could easily be that BT Consumer haven’t yet updated their own ordering systems.

Did I read somewhere on here that the database is only updated on a Fri sometime? If so, if I check on a Sat and it’s still showing as FTTC only, that it’s pointless checking again until the following weekend?…
