Sorry, there is nothing this forum can do to help. Try asking on the Sky forum. Openreach do not allocate phone numbers anyway, and this forum has no connection to Openreach.

Ofcom allocate number ranges.

If you have a quick look at the OFCOM website :-

http://static.ofcom.org.uk/static/numbering/index.htm#geog1

and download the spreadsheet that contains your number range (note the numbers exclude the leading zero). The line in the spreadsheet will show to whom the range is allocated.

Has anyone got any advice please?

we have just moved into a new build property, all our neighbours have and 01287 area code, however, via sky we have been allocated an 01642 area code which is for 10 miles from our home. According to sky this is the area code openreach BT have assigned to our postcode for them.

How do we sort this issue? We have closed our sky account and applied for a new account, but the same issue has applied from a text message today.

I can not understand how we have a totally different area code to all our neighbours when we live bang smack in the middle of the town centre.

This is a BT Retail Customer forum. BT Retail or Openreach do not allocate phone numbers. Ofcom issue number ranges to each provider, so Sky must have given you a number from the range allocated to Sky. Only they know why it from a different area code, perhaps that is all they have available? Area codes mean very little these days.

You need to post on the Sky User Forum, and you should be able to get help there.

I have spoken with sky on numerous occasions who say it’s openreach who allocated the number to them. We have an open reach hub of some sort preinstalled by Avant for fibre. However my partner choose to stay with sky when we moved. We have not ported over the same number it is a totally different telephone number

Openreach split from BT Retail in 2016. In your case you need to contact Sky.

Openreach don’t allocate phone numbers to OLO’s , Ofcom do.

01642 and 01287 are adjacent STD codes, the chances are that the way Sky have set up their network is that Guisborough is just a satellite from Middlesbrough , hence the allocation of 01642, but as already mentioned, it’s got nothing at all to do with BT.

FWIW, chances are your new home is Openreach FTTP , Sky customers on older systems like ADSL or FTTC will in effect be routed from the local exchange and have 01287 numbers , but FTTP is different , the fibre head end could be miles away, but has no relevance to the area code allocated, should the customer want telephony from their ISP, the ISP arranges the ‘number’ to be used, if your neighbours have FTTP but use BT and they have 01287 numbers that ‘proves’ the issue is with Sky

Not much consolation, but it's worth asking.

From memory, the Postcode for you areas changed some years ago. e.g, parts of North Yorkshire now come under the TS (Teesside) area.

Older properties may have been allocated numbers to the older postcode, e.g. Saltburn, Guisborough, etc...
