Need to replace Broadband cable supply with wifi Halo2.

I have Broadband supply via very old unreliable copper cable which gives me speeds of well under 20Mbps. Recently BT supplied a wifi mini hub again, on a temporary basis. But only while the wired connection was repaired.

The difference was significant achieving over 40Mbps.

Has anybody had the same problem?

And what was the outcome?

With BT allowing me to use wifi mini hub instead of a very old copper supply wire. At least 50 year old. No chance of fibre as I live outside a village.

many lines are as old as yours and work with no problems if you dial 17070 option 2 your line should be silent and best with corded phone

Thanks for response Climjolly. Dialled 17070 and had a "silent" response. Does this mean my copper line is working OK.?

yes if quiet line test was as it's name suggests quiet/silent then your phone line is good and should not cause broadband problems

BT sell the mini hubs but they don't have unlimited usage, so if you're a heavy user this option might not benefit you.

Try copying the link without the https://, if you use the www.bt part onwards the page loads ok, possibly the forum formatting.

Richie Your reply hits the jackpot, as having a faster WiFi when using the mini hub on a temp. basis, after losing wired Broadband (strong winds broke connection on telegraph pole.

I will see if I can go from Halo2 to 4G Wifi hub.

Just a thought, if BT cannot provide you with a reliable and working service (and you may have to give them a few tries at making it work) you may (and I stress MAY) be able to remove yourself from the contract in time.

It's worth trying to get the service working. Do you know what speeds the line is supposed to give you?

As I have had lots of trouble with my telephone line, and even Halo 2 was little better than Halo , I thought it would be a good idea to go 100% wifi with BT new 4G Hub. Ordered a 4G hub. Arrived today. But hardly any improvement going from ca. 17Mbps to 23Mbps. Contacted BT , Ring back promised, none received.
I PROBABLY WILL MAKE USE OF 14DAY COOLING OFF PERIOD.
