Just had a chat with a chap a few houses up who runs his business from home, it appears our intermittent problem, which is becoming more frequent, is part of a much larger issue that BT are trying to rectify in time and is a major job. Currently all funds are being allocated to getting rural areas on fibre, We are centrally based and only 200 meters from the exchange, and it would seems we are quite a way down the list. At least I have a fine collection of new BT equipment 🙂

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the stats from your router (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser) and if HH5 then go to troubleshooting then helpdesk and if HH6/SH2 then advanced settings then technical log information .

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

enter your phone number and post results remember to delete number https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

Thanks for your quick response

We do not have a handset to test the line, in fact nobody in the whole avenue has, as the noise is so bad you cannot hear anyone, it has been like this since 1997. BT are aware.

the most basic check for broadband problems is to check for line noise making other suggestions may be pointless and cause more problems if you cannot check you line then you need to phone 150 for assistance
