Broadband goes off when rain starts

Hello,

Looking for help with a broadband connection that drops whenever it starts raining.

Behaviour is extremely consistent: at the onset of rain, even a light shower, the broadband connection will drop (orange light on the Hub). Roughly ten minutes later the connection will re-establish, even if it's still raining. If the rain then stops and re-starts the connection will drop out again then re-establish a few minutes later. BTWifi-with-FON is also unavailable during this time. Over the summer, when we had no rain for months, I wasn't aware of a single drop in connection. The past couple of months, though, have seen intermittent showers accompanied by a drop in connection every single time. This is a long-standing problem which I have raised with the Helpdesk several times, to no help.

You have a line fault not a broadband fault. Report an intermittant noisy line when it rains. A line engineer will check the line for water ingress.

Hi thank you for replying.

My line has been tested and they say it's fine. I don't have a phone plugged in never have. An engineer said it was a broadband fault.

If you've had an engineer out why didn't he fix it? There is oviously water ingress on the line which needs a line engineer to locate and resolve.

I have had many engineers here and now they say it is a ghost fault and they cant find it. Help desk told me I have too many devices connected I have 17 devices but not all get used.

Help desk talking utter tosh as usual, engineers just hopeless. There is a line fault and they are just too incompetent to find it.

So how do I get this fixed? Just live with it? I'm in Scotland it rains all the time

Then it should be easy to find, keep reporting the fault until you get a competent engineer.

Make sure you report a line fault not a broadband one.

What kind of Broadband do you have, is it ADSL or VDSL?

If it’s ADSL might be worth asking BT to Raise an SFI2 Fault. That’s a Broadband Fault and the Engineers who do them are usually more competent than your average CAL/OMI Engineer who you’ll most likely end up with if you just report it as an Intermittent Noisy Line because then it’ll just be reported as a CDTA Fault, which basically means if it line tests OK and no noise it present during the Engineers visit they’ll most likely tell you to report it again as a Broadband Fault.

It's an asdl copper long reach line (I'm sure that's what they told me) I will do that on monday and hope I get an engineer who can help.

Have they changed the dropwire? That's the one that comes down your wall outside

Yes that was changed and he put a new socket in that leads direct to the hub.

I've just re-read message 1, can you just clarify the following please.

Was the drop wire changed recently or several months ago and the fault has recently returned?

Is there anything sharp on the wall where the dropwire is e.g. pebble dashing?

Are there any sharp kinks in the dropwire ?

Can you see any damage to the insulation on the dropwire, maybe where it bends to come in the house?

Hi I am currently out just now. I will check all that when i get back home. It was changed at end of last year and yes the fault has returned. Seems only when its winter it does this
