from what you have posted your connection speed is as expected from the dslchecker results.

can you post hub stats if hh6/sh2 then advanced settings then technical log information (not the logs)

are you running btspeedtester with an ethernet connection direct form master socket to pc with no powerline adapters

Since the cloudfare outage on 17 July my broadband has dropped to 21Mbps download and ~15Mbps upload. My connection dropped for about 20 minutes before coming back online that night. On some tests my upload speed hits 19Mbps and exceeds the download speed.

My connection has been very stable for years at 71Mbps download and 18Mbps upload.

Could someone please take a look into why this has happened?

BT speedtest diagnostics report:

Basic Performance Test -
Time Stamp Latency Download Upload
Monday 20 July 2020 | 18:6:44 30 Ms 21.22 Mbps 13.73 Mbps
Advanced Performance Test -
Download Test
Download speed achieved during the test was 21.22 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 40-77.43 Mbps
Your DSL Connection Rate: 0 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM),0 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
For your connection, the maximum achievable download speed is 77.43 Mbps
IP Profile for your line is 77.43 Mbps
Upload Test
Upload speed achieved during the test was 13.73 Mbps
For your connection, the maximum achievable upload speed is 20 Mbps
IP Profile for your line is 20 Mbps

Thanks imjolly.

I'm using an ASUS RT-N66U connected to a BT Openreach NGA ECI-CPE MODEM TYPE 1B. Master socket doesn't have a direct ethernet, only the Openreach modem does. Connecting PC direct to Openreach modem does not resolve the issue.

Doesn't look like I can get line stats. I have a HH3 from back when I first signed up 7 years ago, still in the box never used.

all the stats are held by the modem

sorry I meant you to connect hub to device by ethernet before running btspeedtester with no powerline adapters and then post results

[RESOLVED] Slow download speed and upload speed can overtake it.

I will post this solution in case anyone else has this issue in future.

Connected HH3 to Openreach modem as advised by imjolly - 68Mbps download, 9.8Mbps upload. 🤔

Swapped out cables - no difference.

Connected ASUS router again, back to original issue.

Went through the ASUS settings, looks fine. Checked QoS settings 75Mbps down and 20Mbps up as it has always been. Tested switching off QoS, would not apply! 🤔

Trawled forums looking if anyone had a similar problem, bingo! Someone with an ASUS RT-AC3200 with same interface as my ASUS RT-N66U had the same issue. A known bug.

Enabled the telnet setting on the ASUS router. I installed telnet via program & features on Windows 10, but it acted funky and split characters up over several lines. So I used PuTTY instead.

Connected to router IP and entered username and password when prompted.

Typed these lines one by one and pressed enter after each line.

nvram set qos_enable=0
nvram commit
service restart_qos
service restart_firewall

So it seemed the download QoS bandwidth had mirrored the upload QoS bandwidth with no indication on the GUI, a router bug?

Anyway, I'm a happy bunny now. 🤗 Thanks for your help imjolly!

Basic Performance Test -
Time Stamp Latency Download Upload
Tuesday 21 July 2020 | 19:49:10 23 Ms 72.39 Mbps 20.14 Mbps
Advanced Performance Test -
Download Test
Download speed achieved during the test was 72.39 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 40-76.31 Mbps
Your DSL Connection Rate: 0 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM),0 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
For your connection, the maximum achievable download speed is 76.31 Mbps
IP Profile for your line is 76.31 Mbps
Upload Test
Upload speed achieved during the test was 20.14 Mbps
For your connection, the maximum achievable upload speed is 20 Mbps
IP Profile for your line is 20 Mbps
