    <description>&lt;P&gt;Please excuse my ignorance but is the first figure the upstream noise margin and the second figure the downstream noise margin? For example, 6.3dB / 5.9 dB. Am I correct in assuming these 2 figures should be roughly equal and the higher the better?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Yes to your first question and no to your second.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;The upstream target noise margin is 6dB. The downstream used to be 6dB as well but Openreach have now implemented a target of 3dB to give slightly higher speeds. Not all lines will cope with 3dB and DLM might decide that 6dB will give you a more stable line at a slightly reduced speed.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
