Have you checked for line noise. Dial 17070 option 2 should be silent and best with corded phone

have you tried using test socket with filter to see if that helps stability

which master do you have

I've noticed an issue with my connect recently and that it keeps dropping every few hours and it was enough to get the DLM to reduce my connection down to 4mbps.

Modem: BT Openreach Huawei HG612

Line information:

Stats recorded 24 Oct 2020 19:43:02

DSLAM type / SW version: IFTN:0xb206 (178.6) / v0xb206
Modem/router firmware: AnnexA version - A2pv6C038m.d24j
DSL mode: VDSL2 Profile 17a
Status: Showtime
Uptime: 1 hour 3 min 8 sec
Resyncs: 1 (since 24 Oct 2020 12:05:28)

Downstream Upstream
Line attenuation (dB): 26.0 0.0
Signal attenuation (dB): Not monitored
Connection speed (kbps): 4483 3607
SNR margin (dB): 25.0 9.5
Power (dBm): 4.3 4.3
Interleave depth: 1 1
INP: 48.00 0
G.INP: Enabled Not enabled
Vectoring status: 5 (VECT_UNCONFIGURED)

RSCorr/RS (%): 0.1020 3.3427
RSUnCorr/RS (%): 0.0000 0.0000
ES/hour: 4.78 9.11

Connection stats:

xdslcmd info --stats
xdslcmd: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime
Retrain Reason: 4
Last initialization procedure status: 0
Max: Upstream rate = 4320 Kbps, Downstream rate = 12500 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 3607 Kbps, Downstream rate = 4483 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps
Link Power State: L0
Mode: VDSL2 Annex B
VDSL2 Profile: Profile 17a
TPS-TC: PTM Mode(0x0)
Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime
Down Up
SNR (dB): 22.8 8.1
Attn(dB): 26.0 0.0
Pwr(dBm): 4.3 4.3
VDSL2 framing
Bearer 0
MSGc: -6 33
B: 196 112
M: 1 1
T: 0 5
R: 16 16
S: 1.3865 0.9933
L: 1229 1039
😧

I've had a listen on 17070 and it sounded like a Geiger counter with the crackling on the line. I have the Master Socket 5C and I haven't tested it on the test socket yet.

If the master is the one where the face clips on and not held by screws then check it is clipped tightly as there have been posts where it was causing problems as not fully clipped

if you can still hear the noise in test socket then need to report phone fault to 151

A dull hum is normal using a cordless phone but not for corded phone

i would try using test socket with filter for a period and see if that stabilises your line
