only getting 2mbs when downloading but speedtests say 17mbs

had BT internet for a while now and its alway been stuck at 2mbs, ive done multiply speedtests and theyre all coming out between 12mb-17mb but whenever i download something its stuck at 2mbs and wont go any higher. is anyone able to help out with this

are you possibly confusing your bits and your bytes

a connection speed of about 17megabits (Mb) equates on some download sites at about 2Megabytes (MB)

there are 8 megabits in a 1 Megabyte
