Hi Guys

As the title suggests .. is Activating IPv6 on my Archer C7 as easy as I "Think" it is

(PPPoE + Username = (bthomehub@btbroadband.com) + Password = BT) + "Save"  ..

***UPDATE***

I found this when searching >>> (Does this still Hold True / Correct ??? )

IPv6 - *Enable*/Disable. Enabling gives the following options:

- IPv6 Connection Type - choose from Dynamic IP, *PPPoE*, 6to4 Tunnel, or Bridge. If PPPoE is selected it asks whether to use the same account as IPv4 - *yes*

- Get IPv6 Address - choose from Stateful, Stateless, *Non-Address* or Auto

- Prefix Delegation - *yes*/no

- Obtain DNS automatically - yes/*no*.  *Use Google's IPv6 DNS server addresses as follows:  primary - 2001:4860:4860::8888 and secondary - 2001:4860:4860::8844*

- Assigned Type - choose from ND Proxy, SLAAC+Stateless DHCP, DHCPv6, or *SLAAC+RDNSS*

- Firewall Rules - *none required*

Keith J

Well, I threw Caution to the Wind & tried out the Above ..

Result = Zip.. Zero.. Nada.. Nowt.. Nothing Will not Connect

However, with a little bit of Playing around (Blindly I might add) I changed the Connection type from PPPoE to 6to4tunnel & BOOM !!!!!

Connection Established Everything running Smoothly & (whether this is anything to note I dont know) I got Rather a Big "Speed Bump" in the process.

When I originally got Fibre 900 my speeds were in the high 800's to low 900's over the months (4 actually) the speed have been dropping consistently giving me low 600's to high 500's ...

Changing to an IPv6 connection appears to have "Bumped this up" by about 100 mbps (Now high 600's to low 700's) ..

Still Puzzled as to WHY the PPPoE settings on IPv6 wouldn't connect though

THOUGHTS Gentlemen ?????

Try using these settings recommended by tp-link for BT:

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/2942/

The difference seems to be the DNS setting.

@TheSeasider  6to 4 Tunnel isn't native IPv6, it is just IPv6 being tunneled over an IPv4 connection.

Try dynamic IP rather than PPPoE for connection type and then DHCPv6

DNS settings are OK as BT doesn't have IPv6 DNS servers and just uses IPv4 DNS to give IPv6 addresses.

I like the young man bit, being somewhat older than yourself.

There isn't really any advantage to IPv6 over IPv4, its only reason for existence is lack of IPv4 addresses. There are currently extremely few sites that are IPv6 only although that will obviously change as time progresses. In theory, IPv6 is slower than IPv4 due to the extra overheads.
