Hi again

I believe the install would be optic fibre to the cabinet, then copper to the property.

We have overhead telegraph lines where we live, and there's one that terminates just underneath the front guttering, then down the wall to the front door. Previous occupants would've had the telecoms box in the hallway.

Installing the cable through the front wall would've been easier for them, but no safer from infection than installing it through the back wall.

It's so frustrating because other than the EE wireless router I already have, there's no alternative to BT's hardware.

Hi

Back in November I had Openreach come to my house to install fibre broadband.

Our living room is at the rear of the building, and the TV Ariel comes through the back wall. We requested the hub be installed where our TV is by the back wall, but the engineer refused on the grounds of Covid restrictions.

He offered to install it at the front side of house; but that doesn't suit us, as we want the hub on the TV stand. We refused and the engineer left.

1. Why can't they go to the rear of the property because of Covid? They still have to enter the property regardless of the entry point of the cable.

2. When will they be allowed to do what we request? (Install the hub cable through the back wall)

I honestly thought they'd just run the cable over the roof or around the side of the house, and then through the rear wall to where our TV is situated.

Thanks

Engineers are usually very good at pleasing the customers request but without seeing what you wanted it was obviously not something he was going to do.

First of all "Up over the roof" doesn't sound like a normal install, Installers can take it round the house (if possible and the line not too far from the CBT)

I suggest you may be in for a long wait now as COVID-19 is serious and if the engineer doesn't want to enter your premises that is his choice.

He offered to do the install but you stopped him on the grounds he has rights to.

I don't have any wired internet. I have an EE wireless modem.

The broadband I ordered was with BT, with Openreach the installers.

I'm afraid going with a different provider will still require Openreach to install it, as the fibre infrastructure belongs to BT. Am I correct?

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

The engineer said that they would have installed it through the back wall under normal circumstances.

He also said that they would come back out and move it for us when normality returns.

He was happy to install it through the front wall. Essentially it's the same room, as our dining area and living room is not partitioned.

The only difference I can see between a front and rear installation, is running the cable from the telegraph pole over or around the house to the rear.

The house is a small semi detached. I'm really struggling to see why Covid restrictions should halt rear wall installations.

I'm in a similar proffession, so I accepted his reasons without argument. Time has passed now, so I'm here to find if I can get the rear installation yet.

A front installation would mean running cable around the top of the interior walls, which would look a mess.

Thanks

If the Cabling could’ve gone on the outside wall to the back of the house it sounds like a case of, ‘Can’t be Arsed Mate’ and has used Covid as an excuse.
