Hi,

just increased to the 900meg package from the 150, primarily to get the upload speed up to somewhere near 100meg as I do a lot of uploading of data back to the office. Came down this morning and the speed seemed to have updated to around 300 meg so I did a factory reset on the router and am now getting pretty much the download speed I requested - laptop into the back of the smart hub 2 and I get over 800 meg download. Upload though...... it was sitting steadfastly at 30mb then after half an hour and me reloading my saved config (I change the access point name and password to my old one so I don’t need to go round connecting Alexa devices again) it has jumped up to around 60Mb, is this the max I can realistically expect or do you think over the coming hours/days it will creep up?

Just got through to the fibre team and got the old ‘it’s above 10mb so nothing we can do’ response. If this is the case I’m better dropping back to the 150 or 300 mb service as the bt guy checked and said he could see about 30mb upload from his end and that was about all I would get.... surely this is not correct, surely I can expect somewhere close to the 110meg upload speed I’m paying for? Would be interested to hear from any BT mods on here what they think... it seems to be something is stuck/capped at 50mb upload ( is this not the upload speed for the 300mb service, which was what I was getting till I did the factory reboot)?

Just to close this off, got a call earlier from one of the community team, had to say call back after 1 as I was in a call with work but..... he said he thought it was sorted. Just ran a speed test from my iPad and I’m now getting over 100mb upload so it’s looking like it’s fixed, will double check with my laptop and 1gb cable tonight but I’m feeling a lot happier!

It seems to be a real problem with multiple people suffering. It has been reported as a Smarthub software issue, but that would mean the smarthub is responsible for the speed profile which would seem odd.

When I had FTTP installed, it initially was fixed at 50mpbs upload, then the router went down for a reboot and came back after a firmware update at 150mbps.

It must be something in the smart hub though, others seem to say if you remove the smart hub and use your own WiFi Access point then its fine. Hopefully one of the mod team will pick this up and resolve it like they did before.

It begs the question, if you sign up to the 100mbps service on FTTP and use your own router to connect to the ONT, would you get 900mbps ?
Can't see that being something BT/OR would miss.
I use a TL-R605 which works perfectly so the ONT presents a WAN port.

I wonder if its the ONT ?

Apparently not, so looks like the open reach modem is where the speed is set but there is some router setting that caps us at 50mbps. Once again, thanks to the team on here, I’m sorted with my upload speed though

Could do with someone on the slower provisioned line trying a third party router then. But I bet it would still run at the lower speed.

Just been reading the specification for WDM PON. It states "The OLT is responsible for allocating upstream bandwidth to the ONT"
Partly to manage possible transmission collisions between ONT's on the multiplexed upstream.
Something called physical layer operations, administrations and maintenance PLOAM messages.
Will investigate further 🙂

Ah !. When an ONT is powered up the head end uses PLOAM message to provision the ONU with a profile. This would indicate its the ONT ?

Switch back to the SH2 and straight back to 900/50. Did this back and forth a few times and was very consistently the same results.

Called BT and they said they would "change something within my profile" and after that, it was fine at 900/110 for a while. Then the FTTP decided to completely stop working, but that's a different story altogether.
