Thank goodness for that then. I wasn't sure if it was a "special Ethernet cable" or something that the ONT seems to know about or whatever. That alleviates my concerns if the installer in the future refuses to put the ONT in my bedroom. Thanks for the answer.

Openreach ONT Ethernet Cable Question

Just a quick question I wanted to ask in regards to the Ethernet cable that connects into the router and the ONT itself...

Do you have to use what people call the "red end" Ethernet cable that's supplied? Or can you use any old Cat 6 50ft Ethernet cable?

I'm asking this because in the future I intend to get FTTP when it's available in my town, and if the installer for some perverse reason refuses to install the ONT in my bedroom, I'm wondering if I can use a 50ft Ethernet cable to connect the router to the ONT instead? That way I'll have a backup plan in case I can't have the ONT in my room.

The ONT has no idea what colour Ethernet cable you are using. Just use any Cat5e upwards Ethernet cable.
