At least it is consistent with the number checker.

You need to call the FTTP team on 0800 587 4787 as @imjolly suggested and get them to raise an ORDI request with Openreach to get their database integrity checked if they can't offer any other reason why you are unable to get FTTP when your immediate neighbour can.

Full fibre broadband

Before I begin, several people have asked exactly this same question but none of the existing replies are relevant to my situation - so I'm asking for myself.

A few weeks ago I had the need to call an OpenReach engineer to my premises on a different matter irrelevant to this question. While he was here, I asked him when my village was likely to get fibre broadband as I've never been able to get it and I've seen many deals and promotions pass by. To my amazement, he told me that my street has had FULL FIBRE (FTTP) for the last 5 years - possibly longer. So I asked him why haven't we been told this. He checked my postcode and my exact address and told me that it wasn't available here yet. Even the engineer found that unacceptable and somewhat suspicious. He pointed me at an OpenReach online form for me to fill in if my neighbours have fibre but I don't and I duly filled it in. I got absolutely NO feedback from BT or OpenReach about my enquiry so I rang BT. They, in turn contacted OpenReach. It is IMPOSSIBLE to actually speak to anyone at OpenReach and BT said they would escalate the issue on my behalf. I got a couple of perfunctory emails from them which basically said that the 'necessary infrastructure is not available "in your area" yet' - which is complete BS because every single neighbour around me has an FTTP connection EXCEPT me and that includes other people who live in the same postcode! Long story short - I decided to make a total nuisance of myself until I got an explanation and logged several calls back with BT. From one of these calls I was given a QISxxxx number to 'quote in any communication with OpenReach' - which, we all know, is utterly impossible - thereby negating the relevance of the QISxxxx number! Can anyone tell me why connection is a function of HOUSE PREMISES and not just POSTCODE? This reeks of totally unacceptable discrimination based upon - I have no idea - what! Is there anyone else in the same position? How do you break the deadlock and - more importantly - how do you actually get to SPEAK to OpenReach and use the QISxxxx reference? I just want to know what's going on. I think 5 years NOT to provide full access to fibre is utterly unacceptable! Can anyone sort me out please?

Hi.

Would you be able to post a link to the Openreach website where you found your address because I've found absolutely nothing of any relevance there myself. I've been beating my brains out about getting fibre for ages and it feels like I'm shouting into a vacuum. I'm on the verge of leaving BT.

Thanks in advance!

Hi.
Imjolly below has posted a link to the fibre checker. If your address does not show up in that, I've been told that it's a screw-up with BT's customer database so you need to ring them and try to get someone to sort you out. You are not alone, many, many people report exactly the same problem that you're having. If either BT or OpenReach spoke to people more often we wouldn't get so damned frustrated. Good luck with the quest ahead of you.

Hi Imjolly,

Can you explain to me what difference one's phone number makes regarding fibre? The engineer that came to call (as in my original post) pointed out to me the pole and the spur that carry the fibre connections. My main complaint is that it's not my side of the street and it's not my postcode. It is SOLELY my address! According to the same engineer, all that is required is that someone runs a fibre cable from the pole (which I can see from my front door) to my house. Period! That's all that's needed. No-one at BT or OpenReach can tell me why that isn't possible! Do you have any experience with this? Thinking on it further - my phone number is utterly irrelevant anyway since we're talking about FTTP and not FTTC! Even if it was FTTC I could understand there might be a discrepancy - but definitely NOT FTTP! None of it makes any sense. Many thanks for your reply.

Hi Licquorice,

This is what I get when I enter my address (redacted) into BT's own fibre deals checker page. You will notice that it only talks about ADSL - which is what I already have. I don't know how to use my actual address in any of the more detailed or diagnostic pages since they ask for data that I don't have - other than my telephone number. Thank you for your response. PS: I only took a screenshot of the relevant bits. There is a load of other advertising and Covid information below this which is irrelevant to this discussion.

Hi @Nuketamilnadu,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the Community. I can understand your frustration and I'm sorry you haven't been able to order Full Fibre. It does look like there could be a database discrepancy.

Do you get the same result when you enter the Telephone number and your address when using the availability checker?

Thanks,

Paddy

Hi PaddyB!

I get the same results from both the general enquiry-type, address-based checker and the more detailed, technical telephone number checker. I have raised the possibility of a database error many, many times with BT and all that happens is that I get a very perfunctory email saying they've raised it with OpenReach. They then 'close the case' and I hear nothing more - ever! I'm trying to get an understanding of exactly how they determine who can and who can't get fibre. I come from an IT/Physics background - so I'm firmly on home soil with this. The most frustrating part is that an OpenReach engineer - himself - informed me that all that is required is for someone to run a fibre link from my house to the distribution pole which I can see from my own front door just past the end of my front garden (well, 'garden' in the loosest sense :-_)) I'm struggling to understand the problem. Many thanks for your response.

The checker https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL has an address checker function as well as phone number checker. It is this function we are asking you to check to see if there is a general discrepancy or just with your phone number.
