See the thread. I had exactly the same issue. I resolved it by clicking "Buy" which then takes you to your bt.com account page, log in and then I deactivated and reinstalled. This is part of your BT Virus Protect so it's free. It's a real pain as I had to do it three times today.

Have just updated my MacBook Air with the latest operating system, Big Sur. All was well until I found the BT Mcafee virus protection wasn't working. I downloaded the latest version from BT and installed it. All was fine until I reached the Firewall page and there it is stuck. It requests I give it permission to load but whatever I do it just goes around in a circle. Can anyone help? Thanks

I've upgraded to Mac OS Big Sur - BT Virus Protect continually brings up pop up McAfee Alert about ' Allow us to continue your setup' Click Allow in Security & Privacy. I think everything has been done in Full Disk Access bu t I still get this message, is there anything else I'm supposed to do? Really annoying as the pop up windows keep appearing.

I've tried re-installing and doing the update, I know there is an issue with Firewall on the McAfee website, Real Time Scanning won't turn on either.

I have exactly the same issue. spent hours on the phone last night. BT, told to call Apple. Called Apple, told to call Mcafee.

Mcafee wouldn't help as SW is via BT not direct from them, but the did say the only Mcafee version that will work with Big Sur is 4.10. BT are supplying 4.9.0.2.

Trying to find somebody in BT who understands this and will take responsibility has so far been impossible.

Raise a complaint, the more who do this the BT may actually listen.

Response from McAfee:

This is an ongoing issue with McAfee. Once we have a confirmation that the issue is resolved, you will receive an email with a Knowledge Base article that will contain the steps on how to resolve the issue.

If you don't want the pop up message, You can uninstall McAfee.

If you don't want that pop up message, you can uninstall McAfee and once you get the mail from McAfee, you can reinstall McAfee.

Keep losing connection with the McAfee agent

I’ve upgraded to Big Sur on my MacBook Pro and Mcafee keeps asking me to allow it to upgrade the software in Security & Privacy....I can’t see an option to actually allow Mcafee other than the general choice to allow downloads from approved sources etc etc....

I’ve reinstalled BT Virus Protect/Mcafee but the issue is the same....the software tells me everything has installed successfully, all checks passed ok but then this pop up window keeps appearing asking me to make the allow action......

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....I am thinking perhaps the prog isn’t compatible with Big Sur yet.....?

This is a BT issue, not a MacOs or indeed Apple issue...

From MacAfee website "IMPORTANT: Real-Time Scanning, and the Firewall in your McAfee software will stop working if you upgrade to macOS Big Sur while still running McAfee security software version 4.9 or earlier. To remain protected, do not upgrade to Big Sur if your McAfee software is at version 4.9 or earlier."

Reading more, MacAfee have a version (4.10.0.0 released in Oct 2020) that works with MacOs11 its just that BT have not adopted it and pushed it out via Virus Protect.

I have had exactly the same problem. Been on to BT and spoke to several different advisors who all claimed no knowledge except for the last one who looked at the issue. He told me that in order for BT to rectify the problem the Development Team would have to update the McAffee Anti Virus software to the one that is compatible with Big Sur. So there's nothing to be done until BT makes this update. I asked how the team should be informed of the issue but it seems we have to hope that one of them is monitoring this forum! I'm not in the least impressed!

OK I've seen lots of information about removing and re-installing Net Protect Plus which I did and once re-installed it is still telling me to click 'allow' in the Security & Privacy. I've been through all the tabs and there is no allow button anywhere. If no one has any suggestions can I ask if anyone can direct me to the correct people within BT who are responsible for the product. Like most support pages BT' are useless at pointing you at anything other than FAQ's

I have had exactly the same problem with similar outcomes. BT passed the buck to McAfee but when calling their office in Swindon I hit a brick wall getting a garbled American accent telling me to call back later.

A message was sent by BT several weeks ago warning of this problem but after calling both them and McAfee they both claimed to have no knowledge of this.

If this can't be sorted out quickly I may resort to switching supplier when my contract ends.
