Not a great start!!

So today my new broadband connection was switched on with BT, and my old Vodafone connection was disabled, but I have not received my BT router yet.

I spoke to BT who quite frankly said they have posted it so they can do no more, and I have to ring royal mail. According to the tracking information the router arrived at "Yorkshire DC" on Wednesday 9th December at 04:30, and is still there. I got a text from royal mail Wednesday to say it will be delivered Thursday between 07:30 and 12:30, but obviously that did not happen.

So now I have a problem that I have no internet, and working from home.

I am looking at buying a TP-Link modem router so I can get online today. Does anyone know how easy they are to set up? Do I need to get anything from BT to make it work (username, password etc)?

They are virtually plug and play. Just need to enter PPPoE login details which are the generic username of bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password BT.

You need to delete the link as it breaks forum rules.

I see a mod has already done it 😃

Thanks for the reply. Is it really that easy?

I have a "normal" broadband connection, which is fibre to the cabinet, then copper to the property. Therefore, this modem router should work fine right?

Yes, and it is that easy, it has a quick setup wizard to run through. Select BT VDSL if it doesn't auto detect your service.

if FTTC then tplink modem/router should be ok just use info provided by @licquorice

I assume you have dial tone on your phone line, otherwise nothing is going to work.

The TP Link W9970 is really easy to setup, and very reliable.

Got the router and within 10 minutes all set up.

You may find that is more reliable than any home hub. It does not transmit BT Wifi, and cannot be controlled by BT.

When the home hub arrives. Keep it safe, as you may need it if you have a broadband fault, and BT insist that you plug in the home hub.

The home hub 2 is needed if you ever add the BT Complete wifi option, with the black discs, however there are better options to improve wifi coverage, which do not involve extra monthly costs.
