Over the last two weeks IPlayer, Netflix and prime video have all had issues connecting to their servers to stream standard def video. This is happening on multiple devices, including Amazon fire sticks and now to boxes so I know it’s not the end device. Sometimes the apps fail to connect with error codes as they can’t find the servers on the internet. They connect to the internet fine so it’s a routing issue. I don’t think this is a Netflix or prime issue as it’s not just one supplier.

wifi speeds are good, using 5ghz networks with no other interfering networks around. I’ve tried all the suggestions about increasing performance on the streaming devices. The fault remains

Normal broadband connection speed is circa 29mbps down, 5 up using FTTC infinity.

speed checks are variable from 21-29mbps when done with Speedtest but Bt wholesale reports 104mbps + which is clearly wrong.
is this a likely fault in the line/cabinet /Bt servers ? As it’s become a major issue

any help gratefully received

the

are the devices with the problem connected by wifi or ethernet or both?

Wi-fi but nothing has changed on the Wi-fi and standard internet service is fine including non Bt speed tests, ping times around 10ms, I make sure there is no other Wi-fi activity when testing. Set up has been working fine for a couple of years. No one else in range uses 5ghz, and the network scanner on my Mac shows good strength and low noise on the Wi-fi.

fibre to the cabinet, is connected to an open reach modem our end and a tp link vr2600 router.

I know when IPlayer is going to fail as load times are longer then I get a message on the IPlayer screen saying ‘IPlayer may look a bit different but don’t worry you can still watch’. But in reality streaming won’t then work. And all the previously watched are missing. It’s as if routing to specific streaming services is either blocked or bandwidth limited somewhere.

if your router is not dropping internet connection then any wifi problem you are having is to do with your tplink router. have you tried changing channel for your 5ghz network

But I don’t have a Wi-fi issue, channel is clear, streaming from an attached personal cloud works fine, it’s only streaming from external sources.

then try connecting with an ethernet cable and see if you get the same result

That will have to wait until I get chance to order an adapter as the fire stick. Doesn’t have Ethernet as standard. Interestingly Bt claimed to have fixed a full in the area and its working fine today. May be coincidence but I appreciate it could be Wi-fi but at the times it failed I did various Wi-fi checks and it was all ok.

So as feedback in case anyone else has this issue. After Bt fixed the unknown fault in the area, all streaming services worked fine again and have done so for a week. So no issues with Wi-fi but clearly some of the Bt routing services had failed.
