Hi

I had a similar set-up to you except for a Sky Q 2TB box and BT Super fast FTTC as FTTP not available in this area. I was using 2x Sky Q minis, a Smart Hub 2 router and BT Whole Home Wi-Fi 4 Discs with both 5 and 2.4GHz wifi on router off. Like you it was unstable with what I thought was interference between the Sky mesh and the BT mesh. The sky mini in our conservatory kept losing connection and seemed to be getting worse happening several times a day.

I tried what you suggested, I had to unplug all sky devices first switch on 2.4GHz wifi on BT hub and rename the SSID. I then switched only the Sky Q main box back on and set it to the new ssid BT hub 2.4 wifi and then the next closest mini box (in bedroom), this took several attempts as it switched back to the Wholehome mesh but it finally accepted the new SSID and was all working OK. I then configured the 2nd Sky Q mini in the conservatory and this worked ok too and seemed to be a stable connection.

The only issue I had was that I have bi-fold glass doors connecting the conservatory to the dining room and when shutting the door the picture would go off but opening the door would immediately fix this. I guessed it must be using the sky mesh 5GHz signal and this was too weak. I had 2 sky boosters stored away from my original set up years ago before the BT whole home and so I added a sky booster in the dining room connected this to the Bedroom mini and the conservatory mini to the booster and no more problems with losing signal with door shut.

This set-up has been rock solid for over a week and even fast forwarding recordings on the minis work perfectly, as I use to have issues with this before.

So thanks for the advice it has been a great help.

Hi ,

I have Bt Broadband Superfast Fibre , Hub 6 and am happy with it , all our devices in the home work from Wi Fi , laptop, I Phones , TV etc

Am about to upgrade my Sky to the new Sky Q system and looking on the Sky forum it seems many are having problems with the new Sky Q box dropping connection regularly .

I think this is not confined to BT Broadband and could well be a Sky issue but it seems one fix suggested for BT Broadband users is to turn off Smart Settings in the Hub Admin menu.

This got me thinking as to what this feature actually is I have never been aware of it.

Can anyone please advise what this facility is and what I would lose if I turned it off , Im thinking it doesnt work via wi fi anyway as Ive never encountered it.

Thanks in advance

Smart Setup is BT's online set-up wizard. Every time you connect a new device to your Hub, it guides you through setting up all the BT features and services available for that device.

It should appear as soon as you connect to the Hub and open a browser. I believe the recommendation (looking through threads on this forum), is to turn it off regardless of who provides your TV as it causes more problems than it solves full stop.

I have just had Sky Q installed plus 1 mini box and have a BT Smart Hub 2 and a Complete Wifi disc. I am on the latest firmware (Q112) which appears to be causing some people connection issues but I haven't had any at all so far.

Sky Q 2TB box is connected via ethernet to the Smart Hub 2, the mini (which is in the room directly above), is connected wirelessly using the Sky Q mesh.

The only change I did make (prior to install), was moving the BT Hub 5gz signal off of channel 36 as that is what the Sky Q mesh defaults to.

I have the SH2 and the SKY Q 2TB box with 3 mini boxes. Had a few connection problems in first week with boxes dropping connection and then having to set up again. This now has settled down and the boxes all connect and have remained connected for weeks without any problem. they are all connected by wifi including main SKYQ box

I have smart setup turned off and the channels on fixed having turned off auto

from memory I think it best to move hub of channel 36 and move to another I have mine on 44

as long as you don't have the SH2 then I would split the networks as already suggested

Hi imjolly and thanks for the response.

Being a bit nervous about messing the whole thing up and not being totally sure what splitting the networks actually means or achieves in relation to Sky Q installation I think for now Ill leave well alone and see if I encounter any issues post fitting.

I am having just the 1TB box with no mini boxes , the TV and box will be in the lounge , as is the BT Hub 6 router , so maybe that will be ok ?

Hi

No Ethernet I’m afraid as it’s quite a long distance between the router , which BT advised me to position with the incoming main feed rather than extension socket , and the tv which is right at the other end of the lounge so it would be too disruptive and have to run along the skirting which is a no go unfortunately.

That’s how I run my setup. Mini boxes connect to the main box via the Sky Q 5Ghz network and then they all connect via the Ethernet cable from the Sky Q 2 TB box to a Black disc then to the SH2. Never had any issues with mini boxes or the main box connecting to the internet, as long as the Black disc maintains connectivity with the SH2.

Hi All,

Sorry, old thread but I think I have recently solved this.

My existing setup is Sky Q 1TB box and x2 Minis. I have BT Fibre (Smart Hub 2) and BT Whole Home Wi-Fi Discs x4 (White Discs) Wifi on Router is OFF.

I could never get a stable connection to the Minis as I thought the Q system did not like anything other than Sky Broadband Mesh Wifi.

After some config changes, I have managed to get stability:

- Turn on just 2.4hz WiFi on Smart Hub 2 (create a separate network name)

- Change Mode to '2'

- Add main Sky Q box to new Wifi

- Add remaining Minis to new Wifi

- I found I did not need to change Sky boxes to 'only 2.4hz' within hidden menu - but this might help others.

This seems to have given me stability. All remaining devices in my house run off the Whole home discs on both (auto) 2.4hz & 5hz - Separate Wifi network.

I hope this helps those that don't want to go down the ethernet route (and Smart Hub is relatively near their Sky equipment)

Thanks
