Hi

Hope you are well.

I've just had BT Engineers install a new ONT inside my house and set up the FTTP fibre (current connected to Smart Hub 2).

I was previously using Nest Wifi + mesh system.

I want to disconnect the Smart Hub 2 and use the Nest.

Please can I get some assistance (complete novice so a Dummy's guide would be useful).

From the ONT - which port on the switch to I connect the ethernet cable.

<STRIKE>Any, but you can just use the one that you used to connect to your previous modem.</STRIKE>

From the Switch - which port on the switch (1-5) and on the nest puck do I connect the ethernet cable to (globe or two arrows).

<STRIKE>Whichever it was connected to before. I suspect the globe is a dsl port and the 2 arrows are an Ethernet port </STRIKE>

Once i've done this bit what should happen next? and if the above does not work how do I go about testing/fixing

If you were previously with BT, nothing, it should now work. If not with BT you will need to enter the generic PPPoE username of bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password BT on the Nest wifi

Many thanks,

Mo

I'm cracking up, only just realised what you are doing. Why are you using a switch between the ONT and the Nest, it won't serve any purpose. Just connect the ONT to the Nest WAN port.

Hi Thanks for the quick response.

When I connect the Nest direct to ONT - all seems to work fine.

But when I connect the switch in between the ONT and Nest ( ONT - SWITCH - NEST) I'm getting no connection.

I'm assuming I need to configure the switch?

If so, can you advise how I can do this?

I've installed the TP Link Utility - which has identified the Switch when connected via ethernet to laptop and nest puck.

When I open this up, there is a whole load of configurations I can make from system, switching and including VLAN.

VLAN has 4 options: MTU, Port based, 802.1Q VLAN, 802.1Q PVID.

No idea what I'm doing here at all now

Thanks again
