You cannot run a tracert to a hub from outside your local network as BT Hubs are configured to respond to ICMP requests and this cannot be changed.

You need a third party router to be able to do that.

Port Forwarding

Hi,

Using the Smart Hut 2 and trying to setup port fowarding.

1) I setup a rule to say that port 9998 needs to forward to IP 192.168.1.x on port 8155.

2) I can telnet from within my network to 192.168.1.x 8155

3) My BT public IP is 86.138.57.92

I can't telnet to 86.138.57.92 9998 from a machine outside my own network.

I was on the phone for one hour with BT with zero progress. All they did was "test the line". Noone there wants to talk about IPs and they told me I wasn't within range?????

When I traceroute 86.138.57.92 it doesn't seem to send me back to that IP. Normal?

How can I make sure that I am even reaching the router? I am not even sure I am reaching the router.

Any one got any idea on how to troubleshoot this next? BT was totally unable to help. "Not many customer use port forwarding they say". I just need it to access my alarm 🙂

Thank you

Try turning off UPnP in case it is causing a confliction.

Does Shields Up show the port as open?
