Better-off getting another modem/router e.g. Draytek with LTE /4G support, then you can determine the time when you switch from VDSL line to mobile network, or even cheaper, get a 4G dongle and supply your own SIM . . . .if it won't operate from the USB socket on the back of the hub, then get a network to USB connector and plug it on the end (That's your switch) - that way it becomes part of the network.

As an aside, I wonder if the hybrid hub will support a SIM other than the BT/EE one supplied - trouble is finding a pure data only SIM as most of the big operators only supply data+text SIMS.

I did an inadvertent naughty and bought a Halo 3 from E-bay on the assumption that my BT account supported Halo 1 service automatically . . or that's the way it appeared to be promoted in December 2021. Now its advertised/offered as a subscription supplement of an extra £1 a month. Of course, it didn't work at first, the Hybrid hub wouldn't pair with the Smart Hub 2 even when it was connected by patch cable. I factory reset both units, then tried pairing - no joy. However, when I removed, the VDSL line in to the Smart Hub 2 and re-booted both, lo it paired. Although I've got a fault on my line which initially on connection via OOKLA, and such like, causes excess jitter on the "Up" channel which rights itself my the end of the test, I don't think it was this that was interfering with the pairing - perhaps it was the absence of some required enabling (Or Blocking) signal coming down the VDSL from the BT server when a Hybrid unit is connected.

I seem to recall that when I first tested this thing (December 2021) I swapped the BT SIM for a Giff_Gaff one and got one white bar on the 4g display and a 15mbps signal.

Today, I'm unable to replicate that.

Discovered this morning that router had reset overnight due to a firmware update. Lights on Hybrid flashing red with solid blue ring. Both wifi discs not working and ym setting on bt app all gone.

Have sorted app and got wifi discs working. I cannot get red flashing lights sorted. i've tried rest, wireless etc. It is obiovus that the firmware has literally destroyed my setting and in aprticular those that are ethernet to my hub.

Anyone have any solutions beore I report it to BT as it is theor fault for the firmware update which shouldn't have done what it has.

Thanks

The central light should turn blue, and the 4G signal icon should have as many lit-up bars as possible.

If your 4G signal isn't strong enough, try moving your Hybrid Connect away from your Smart Hub.

Also happening with mine after firware update. Solid blue circle and three flashing red bars. App shows hybrid connected with 96DB strength. Tried the usual steps but no joy. Every time i go to BT site and click fix a broadband problem, it says it has spotted something and needs to run some checks and reboot router. No issues with connection and app shows connections all good. Broadband confirmed as working and speed test returns expected result. Rebooting/Resetting makes no difference. I did notice i had to cycle the power on the discs after the firware update as both were flashing red but the issue with the hybrid box wont go away. Hybrod connected to router via Ethernet too.

Replacement order got stuck so still waiting on dispatch/delivery.

However, in the meantime, I have reset everything again and tested with only the router and the hybrid box connected (no discs, ethernet connections/wifi to any other devices). On setup, the hybrid box goes through the motions and then rests on Solid Blue Circle and a return to flashing red bars. App still says connected etc as before.

Think the firmware has def screwed the hybrid box or might just be a coincidental failure. Anyway, thought I would update while still waiting on delivery. Post back soon.

New box received and set up, all was looking good and blue bars back. Strangely it no longer has the BT logo but is an EE one.

However, I went back through to check and its gone back to flashing 3 red bars again !!! I forgot to check the firmware of the new one against the old/problematic one sso I don't know if the same update has just pushed through and took me be back to square one.

Firmware on app at present is - v0.14.01.202107230100-BT.

and withing a few mins

(obvioulsy a still frame isn't going to show the flashing, but for illustration purposes).

So no further forward.

I’m having the same issue. Always had two solid blue bars of 4g signal but just recently the bars started to flash red but the app states I have good signal with two bars . BT have sent me a new hybrid. I set this up and got two solid blue bars of 4g signal , then 10 minutes later they started to flash red again but app showing 2 bars and good signal . What is going on here ?

Connected with ethernet. Think you're mixing up the control light with the signal bars. The fact that a new box is all good, then goes belly up suggests the new box receiving an update after setup (firmware) and taking it back to original issue.

Still waiting on them contacting me for more information.
