Cable to land line phone

My BT Decor 2500 phone only gets a line signal from a BT junction box using a long lead.

A short lead does not work. I've tried many.

Has anyone come across this before?

sounds more like the wiring in the shorts leads is not the same as the wiring in your long lead. distance from phone socket should not affect getting a dial tone or not

If you are still having issues, give Discomm a call, as they are a BT spares supplier, and should be able to help you with the correct short cord. As @imjolly has said, your short cords may have the wrong pinout.
