BT Sport App - New Google Chromecast 4K

Hello,

I have bought the latest Google Chromecast which has Google TV and installed the BT Sport app. It states it supports 4K content etc and I have set the dongles display settings to be 4K 60Hz.

My TV is 4K OLED HDR and my broadband is fast.

when I run the device checker within the BT Sport App i get the following .

Why is this showing as X on 4K for my device ? The error message with it does not make any sense either as my dongle def supports 4K.

Unfortunately there's a fault with all Chromecast with Google TV devices at the moment that prevents them playing BT Sport in 4k. Google are aware, and are working on a fix.

We don't have any estimate on when it'll be available.

Ahh that’s so frustrating! Bought it in time for the United match tomorrow.

Assuming the older Chromecast Ultras work with 4K still?

Yes, the Ultra devices will still work with 4K.

On the Chromecast with Google TV, the video will still be available in 2K (1440p) in HDR on Ultimate, so should still offer a great viewing experience.

As the issue is with Chromecast firmware, it could be weeks or months before a fix becomes available I'm afraid. I haven't had any update on it since I raised it 3 weeks ago.

I have the same issue. If I cast bt sport ultimate from the bt sport phone app onto google tv would it then be 4K?

Casting BT Sport Ultimate to Google TV is no longer possible, due to a different firmware issue on Google TV devices I'm afraid.

Google are working on the fix, but no idea of timescales I'm afraid.

Just a reminder though: 2K video is still available. It's still incredibly good quality.

Any more news on when this issue will be fixed. It's very frustrating not been able to watch in 4k.

No update yet - we've not even been made aware of anything in test yet, so I would still expect it to be weeks away at least.

Hi Darren,

I have recently bought a Google TV Chromecast and although I can get HDR, the picture judders every few seconds.

I don't have any issues with watching anything else using the Chromecast (eg Netflix 4k). I have tried wired and wireless approaches with the Chromecast.

I didn't have this issue either with the standard non-4k Chromecast.

Is there anything I can do? Many thanks in advance.

I've just verified this myself @shom345 - it looks like the device is struggling to even play 2K HDR content this evening. I've added it to our issue raised with Google on this.

I'm trying to watch ultimate in 4k too this evening and I've got the same issue. Red X in the testing screen for 4k.

The picture is also very juddery. Well done Google!!

I remember a couple of years ago when chromecast had cracking audio issues it took Google several months to pull their fingers out and fix it. Google are renounced for being slow!

Many thanks. It's been like this for me since I bought the Google TV Chromecast 2 weeks ago. It seems like this is only the case for the HDR ultimate as BT sport 3 atm is fine.

BT sport 2 today had no juddering issues, albeit not in ultimate, only HD. At least the match was watchable.

Can I request that 4k is turned off by default for the new Google Chromecast until this issue is fixed please? The judder just ruins the experience.

You can avoid the 4k streams yourself by simply selecting the channel from the Channels menu, rather than selecting the event from the home screen. Then dismiss the prompt to upgrade to Ultimate when it asks.
