Firstly tried to download cloud contents (50GB of approx 200GB) to macbook as the only space available. Approx 4Gb downloaded and then stopped, not sure why it stopped or what files have or haven't downloaded, but has taken up more space on macbook. I eventually gave up on this as I don't understand it and don't want to keep loosing space on my drive without knowing if I'm downloading everything or duplicating the same on my drive. I noticed last night that my cloud storage was showing 191GB of 1000GB used.

Today I tried to use synch to macbook which worked for the one 4GB folder that was selected on the "make only the following folders available on the computer". Having carried this out successfully, I thought I would carry on doing this for the rest of my folders. The folder that was successful was not selected by me but already in the tick box and not able to change for another.

I thought if I change the synch location to an external drive on my computer this should work. I tried to change the location, but it's not available on the BT cloud control panel anymore. Following a search on this forum for information I was directed to page 36 of how to use the cloud, the panel it shows there was the panel I used to have but that has changed to a new one with no facilities to do anything. As one person suggested, I uninstalled BT cloud, then reinstalled it, during this I was able to select the external hard drive as the location to synch with. I now selected "make all bt cloud content available on this computer" and selected save, it commenced downloading to the external drive. After a while, I noticed that it had stopped synching. The same folder as above had downloaded, nothing else. The notification stated that "you have run out of cloud space and we cannot continue", WHY. I checked and whereas yesterday it was showing approx 800GB free space, now there is none, just the 200GB of data that is already there. Still can't understand why it won't synch. I checked the synching filter uploads and it was showing loads of files uploading to the cloud at the same time as the downloading, I thought uploading to the cloud had stopped on 09/09/24?

I'm now stuck, I have a 1TB external drive that I can't seem to download the data to, I now also have another cloud system with plenty of space, Google Drive, but have't got a clue if it can be transferred directly across to it and how. First to admit that I'm no good on computers. BT should have put something in place to make it easy to transfer our data easily prior to stopping cloud.

Any help please, make it simple so I can understand, Thanks

From 31 October 2024, our BT Cloud will close, and all information will be deleted.

We’ll start reaching out to customers to let them know that the BT Cloud is closing and advise them to download/move their data.

From 9 September the BT Cloud will become read-only.

Content will still be viewable, and available to download, but you won’t be able to upload anything new.

If you pay for additional storage, you won’t be charged from 9 September 2024.

Download your files from BT Cloud

We recommend using the BT Cloud Desktop Client for Windows or Mac to download your data.

Hi, I have just renewed my BT Broadband contract but I am concerned that my BT Cloud is no longer listed under my products in My BT, which it was in my last contract.

I spoke with 150 and after some deliberation I was informed that as long as I have a BT broadband package I will keep my BT Cloud. The only way to "test" this is to wait the 30 day post contract period and see if it gets deleted, which would be disaterous. Therefore I am asking if this has happend to anyone else and that if so it has not ended in tears ? Many Thanks...

I've renewed fairly recently. For me, BT Cloud is not listed directly under "Your products". However if I click on "Manage" under the '"Broadband" product, BT Cloud is listed there along with the other extras such as password manager and virus protect.

I've had the same. I fully use the entire 1TB and it was something keeping me with BT as a nice little perk. The decision to move to another ISP when my contract expires (in Oct as it happens) has been made somewhat easier. Their excuse for removing it has rediculous.

"Cloud-based technology has rapidly developed since we launched BT Cloud. Today, more people are using alternate providers. Unfortunately, because fewer people are now using BT Cloud, we've made the choice to close to the service."

It was available just over a month ago, when I re-contracted. One of the main reasons I stayed with BT.

Also feel this is breach of contact, as will no longer get the service I contracted for!
Someone (over phone) said, it's free so no breach, but no where does it say "free" it is showed as "part" of the Broadband account. And as such is taken into account when joining or re-contracting

The reason given makes no sense as the reason less people are using it is because they closed it to new customers in 2022.

I’ve checked and you can’t cancel your account early as the Cloud was free. Only reason i renewed was because of BT Cloud.

There have been claims on this forum that BT Cloud is "free", but somebody has to pay for it, so not free in the sense that any reasonable person would use the word.

My contract ends in October, so time to move to another ISP.

That said, under no circumstance should anyone ever rely on cloud storage as primary, let alone sole, backup. External backup drives are cheap - I use three, and only resort to cloud storage for convenience.

On a minor note I object to receiving, by no means for the first time, an e-mail from BT which the sender was too lazy to check - "we've made the choice to close to the service."

It was not "free" it was part of the Broadband packaged. Still says it in your account under products: "Included with your BT Broadband"
No mention of the word Free, anywhere....

When you contract, you look at the package they offer, and match that against other providers, some maybe cheaper but less of a package, you contract the package and what is included as part of the contract.

Complaint being written - breach of contact !!

BTCloud was a "Value Added Service". It was a free add on to BT Broadband and not charged for. It was not compulsary that you needed to use it and if you chose not to use it you did not receive any discount or reduction in your Broadband price.

It was subject to its own Terms and Conditions which if you used the service no doubt you will have read them.

In Section 12 its states that BT can end the service provided they give at least 30 days notice which they would appear to be doing now.

I agree it was sold as a "value added service". And as such, it would have influenced people like myself who were attracted to it as a reason to sign a two year contract. If BT has to rely on small print legaiistics, to justify its removal -then what a sad comapny

Any response which justifies the removal of BT Cloud because it is a "free" service is not on. In my contract, several things are said to be £0.00. These are - voicemail, caller display, call diversion, and 200GB of BT Cloud. I hope that BT don't insist that I am signed up for 24 months following the loss of BT Cloud. Can all of these be removed if BT wants, while BT carries on charging the same (+ inflation + even more) for less service? BT is being disingenuous in the way it presents things.

I also agree that the email sent today (15/7) is poorly written, and raises a lot of questions. BT feels like an organisation which cannot be trusted.

I take you never read the "small print" and are unaware legalities of what you agreed to when you took out a contract.

I doubt that BT are using the "small print" to "justify its removal". There will no doubt be a business/financial reason for its removal and the "small print" is only being used to inform you of its removal in line with their Terms and Conditions of the contract that you and BT agreed to when you started using the service.

I'm struggling to understand your defense of BT here. If I buy something online from a compnay which offers me "free postage" , I dont expect to have to pay the postman when it arrives becuase they've changed their minds. The T's and C's might allow BT to withdraw the service - but it was part of the advertised service when I signed up.

So, maybe legally they can terminate the service - but ethically ???????

I am not defending BT.

I think it is unfortunate for all the people that use BTCloud and it will no doubt cause a lot of concern and stress for them.

What I am doing is trying to point out to the people who think that BT can not do this and are in some way breaching their contract are wrong and they will not be able to pursue a complaint regarding that nor would I expect them to be released from their contract because of it.

I doubt that ethics would have come into the bean counters decision making process.
