How are you reading the IP profile, as the BT Wholesale Performance Tester ceased on 10th January, so I wonder if you are just seeing a cached result from your web browser which is no longer valid?

HI after a bad session of errors and disconnects + an unusable phone line we got it fixed , but 10 days later the DLM has not altered the IP profile even though the line has been stable with low errors . I'm stuck on a 2.7 profile and max down stream is 4700 I know it's not a huge difference but when my connection is so low every little helps . Cheers

Normally ADSL does recover on its own, as that is what I assume you have. It does require that you do not restart or disconnect your router for at least 10 days.

If after 10 days the connection speed has not improved, then a single disconnection of the DSL input for about 10 seconds, normally causes the connection to re-sync at the correct speed.

The IP profile can take a few days later to improve.

Dry a single disconnect of the DSL input, to force a resync. Do not restart router as that causes a longer disruption.

See if the line connection speed improved.

The BT Wholesale Performance tester, always seems to give odd results on my ADSL connection, so I just use other speed test sites.

I use a TP Link modem/router and find ADSL very stable.

I use a Billion 7800DXL which has been very good also means I can get all the line stats , but it couldn't do anything about my line shorting on to another unused line ( so the engineer told me ) I'll give it a go , but always nervous with what will happen next on my long EO line ;(

I am surprised there is an issue on the EO cable, unless its in a joint where the cable pairs split. A contact on the MDF is a possibility, but would be easily found.

EO cables were often used to serve factories, and tend to get re-used if the site is re-developed.

My ADSL connection is about 10Mbs, as I am about 1.5Miles from the exchange. There is VDSL available, however I prefer to have a connection coming from equipment in the exchange (MSAN) which comes from the Essential Services mains supply, as opposed to some batteries in the cabinet, as we do tend to suffer from random power cuts, so I have mains backup at this end.

I assume you have considered 4G mobile broadband, provided you have mobile coverage. I have a 4G router on Three mobile, as an alternative connection, especially if I need a faster upload speed.

I have a TP Link TD- W9970 for ADSL and a TP Link TL-MR8400 LTE router for 4G. This is a full featured device which allows port forwarding as well, as I use remote monitoring.

I chose Three Mobile because they offer a routable IPv4 address option, as I do not think EE offer that, which is probably why your Wi-Fi calling did not work, as I think CGNAT (Carrier Grade Network Translation) may prevent it, due to a shared IP address, meaning your network cannot be addressed from the Internet.

For wireless distribution I use the TP Link Deco M4 mesh, with four nodes. I also use TP Link Kasa and Tapo smart devices. Their stuff is very reliable.

Interesting I didn't know that , I realised it wasn't doing a correct test , but speed checks from other sites still point to a IP profile of around 2.7 plus max attainable is always around 4800 Kbps but it's stuck at 3071 Kbps .I would've expected an increase by now.

For your sync speed of 3071 the IP profile is 2500.

The sync speed is normally below the maximum rate. What is the downstream noise margin and the number of corrected errors (FECs), as I assume that interleaving is on?

Lots of uncorrected errors, so there must be interference on the line. That is keeping the downstream noise margin high, to keep the connection stable.

You may be able to hear the noise on a phone connected to the line, but the chances are its outside of the audible range.

Usual cause is radio frequency pickup on overhead lines, as I assume you are fed overhead.

There is not much you can do about it. A DLM reset would just result in an increase in uncorrected errors, which would very quickly reduce the connection speed again.

Many areas that have very low speed ADSL connections, are being planned for direct fibre, but this is going to take a long time.

Use the address checker on the page below, and post the results, but edit out your address details first, but leave the exchange name and cabinet number showing.

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL
Please include all notes at the bottom.

Underground cables can still pick up crosstalk from adjacent pairs, and from within wiring in the cabinet, especially if the pair is unbalanced.

I assume you are not on an EO (Exchange Only) line? That can be found from the link I posted, as there would not be any cabinet number shown.
