Hi, sorry I'm not sure if this is the correct forum!?

I just need to know if an Openreach D side fault is classed as the customers or providers fault, as in whose responsibility would that be please? I am not technically minded in the slightest so Google advise confused me even more!

The copper pair infrastructure in basic terms are cables from the exchange to the PCP’s , the green cabinets you see around , they are the E side (exchange) side cables , they are connected in those cabinets to other cables that run from the cabinets to the various DP’s , an example, with overhead distribution these generally are the blocks at the top of telegraph poles, these cables are D side cables (distribution) .

It’s the same with underground service areas but they have DP's located in jointboxes in the footpath.

The final part of the distribution is from the DP to people’s houses , these are also cables , but this isn’t really D side cabling , it’s the ‘customer lead in’ cabling .

D side cables are not the customer or ISP responsibility but Openreach’s, obviously the customer can’t ever be held responsible for these .

The only cables customers can be responsible for damage or unreasonable wear and tear , are from the master socket to extension sockets within the home , they can be held responsible for the cable from the DP to the house if it were damaged by them , as an example, if the customer had a builder working on their roof, and that work resulted in breaking the wire from the pole , but these are very rare occurrences , most chargable events are within the home after the master socket , but even that’s rare .
