Upload very slow

Hi there and thank you for reading my post.

My internet isnt great at the best of times but recently its got worse! I'm still getting around 10mbps (which is about the best ive had in 30yrs of living here!) however the upload barely gets over 0.5! The speed test below is actually a half decent one to normal, any suggestions on improving upload speeds? The router is plugged in via ethernet.

There is not a lot you can do about the upload speeds other than move to Full Fibre if it's available to you which I am guessing it's not other wise I suspect you would have already done that.

You should check that all your devices network card drivers are up to date. Don't rely on Windows to update them. Go to your network card's manufacturer's web site for the most up to date drivers. Other than that as I have said there is not a lot you can do.

When you say: "The router is plugged in via ethernet" do you mean that the computer you're using to measure broadband speed is connected to the router with an ethernet cable?
If instead, the computer is connected to the router via WiFi, that could be the source of your low broadband speed.

From your stats it looks like you are on ADSL2 and are quite along way from your exchange - 3km?

Hi there,

Getting 10 Mbps down but only 0.5 Mbps up is incredibly frustrating, especially when you are already plugged in via ethernet.

An upload speed that low usually points to a physical issue on the line (like a "high resistance" fault where one of the copper wires is slightly damaged) or severe interference.

Here are a few quick things you can check to isolate the problem:

The "Quiet Line Test": If you have a landline phone, plug it into your master socket and dial 17070. Select the option for the quiet line test. If you hear any crackling, humming, or popping, there is a physical fault on the line that BT/Openreach must fix.
Test the Master Socket (Test Port): If your master socket has a removable faceplate, gently unscrew it. Inside, you will see a hidden "test port." Plug your router directly into that test port using a microfilter. This bypasses all the internal house wiring. If your upload speed instantly jumps up, the fault is with your internal home wiring. If it stays at 0.5 Mbps, the fault is out on the street.
Check for heavy uploads: Sometimes a smart device, phone, or PC in the house is silently uploading a massive backup (like iCloud or Google Photos) in the background. Because your total upload is so small, even one device uploading a photo can completely max out your 0.5 Mbps upload and freeze the whole connection. Try turning off Wi-Fi on all devices except your wired PC to see if the speed recovers.

Give those a try if you can! If the quiet line test is noisy, or the test port doesn't improve things,

the stats of @Pblueman are typical of a customer on VDSL and quite a distance from the exchange. you will not get a faster up speed as that is limited by the adsl2 package the up speed will not improve until move to FTTC or FTTP
