Account holder recently deceased, account now closed. Hub being returned to BT.

Q: is it possible to re-use the Advanced Digital Home Phone (Type A) with a different provider? Shame to see it go to waste and no instructions have been given to return.

No, it is proprietary to the BT Digital Voice system.

Thanks for confirmation of what I feared.

One incompatible gadget at a time, we're slowly but surely destroying this planet.

VoiP protocols are broadly compatible, they're not the problem so let's not pretend they are. Proprietary, short-term, short-sighted business plans are to blame.

I really do despair.

You may be able to sell it online, provided you mention its for BT Digital Voice only.
