Digital voice handsets, Buy new - where?

Where can I buy new digital voice handsets? Had new smart hub 2 installed. Do BT or EE sell these? All I can find is refurb units from Amazon etc which may state BT have stop selling them. All I get on BT is a link about these new handsets but can't seem to buy them! Our old handsets need updating. Want to link to the router by just using the WPS button and just the power cable plugged in. Help!

We have been moved to digital voice. We have been told we can connect new handsets to the router using WPS button and nothing else using 'digital voice phones'. So all you need is a power outlet and the phone can go anywhere.

After installation BT have given us a digital voice adapter but this also needs a socket so you can use existing phones. So with all this new 'digital voice' where are the new 'digital voice' phones??

Can you buy these phones which have WPS function from BT or EE so I don't need two power outlets, one for phone and one for adapter?? Seems like they are rolling this out but where are the phones to go with it?

Please send a link as I am stumped!?

If you get BT Digital Voice phones like this one ,
https://ee.co.uk/broadband/digital-home-phone
It still needs a mains outlet for its cradle to charge its battery…so what the difference a power outlet for the DV adapter or a power outlet for the base unit of a DV handset .

Regular corded and cordless phones work with digital Voice , the specific DV handsets are just regular phones but gave a few shortcut buttons to access some services, they are not essential to use DV , any modern phone will do

So are you saying if we plug the phone line into the adapter this also powers the phone and recharges the battery?

Otherwise you need two sockets.

Not purposely wishing to detract from or confuse the thread, but it’s still worth remembering that mobile cellphones effectively become VoiP handsets when WiFi calling is enabled on the mobile phone. That’s the main reason why I personally don’t have a landline on FTTP because there’s no need to, no phone signal, no problem.

The DV adapter is for a corded phone , so the phone doesn’t need power , instead of plugging into the wall phone socket , it plugs into the adapter (the adapter plugs into the power , so one power outlet needed )

if your phone also needs power , presumably you already have a cordless phone system, you can either pair its handsets directly to the hub , or plug its basestation into the hub ….if you already have cordless phones you must have its basestation and or phone cradles connected to the mains already

We have the main phone currently plugged into the new SmartHub2. Very messy as the router is near the TV etc. We had to move this from the kitchen when the engineer switched us to digital. We have another upstairs.

But the whole point of this conversation is - where can I buy the new digital voice handsets, that use the WPS button? So there is no need for Adapter plugged in, just a power cord plugged in.

The phone is all over EE website but can I buy three?? Put them where I want - Kitchen - living room (not next to the router!) - upstairs with no adapter needed? This the phone advertised on EE website....

Yes you can buy ‘DV’ phones from various on line retailers, strangely the BT Shop seems to have disappeared and the EE shop has pictures of them but no links to buy them….simply search BT DV phones but expect regular BT corded and cordless phones to also appear…as stated there is nothing special about these phones apart from some short cut buttons.
FWIW , the WPS button has two functions , in relation to telephony , the secondary use of the button is to pair DECT cordless phones as well it’s primary use for ‘proper’ WiFi devices that use WPS to connect without having to use the usual log in credentials.

It’s not allowed to post links to retailers etc thats why non have been provided but easy to search yourself.

Thanks for this but I have searched and rarely see new items, mostly refurb! Makes you wonder if these phones are any good or production has stopped.

I have been online to the 'sales team' at EE/BT - they pointed me in the direction of the premium phones but again you need the adapter and socket for power.

I feel a bit duped by all this - forcing you down the route of digital, saying analogue is disappearing by 2027. But when you want to take up new technology - they haven't got the phones available. BT also used to offer you a phone - as the image above - but now don't.

Just wonder whether it is worth it. Might cancel phone line and just use the wifi calling from mobile as mentioned above. I am with EE so hopefully should be seamless. 😂

You're missing the point.

All cordless phones obviously need a power source to charge them or continuously have non rechargeable batteries changed.

The adaptor is simply a portable phone socket and is only required to connect a corded phone to the hub.

Any cordless (DECT) phone can be connected to the hub.

Edit: a quick Google search reveals DV handsets can be obtained from Amazon for £32.99

BT did initially supply a DV cordless DECT phone for early adopters of DV , but that turned out to be something of a rod for their own back , no credit for supplying it in the first place , and criticism for when the battery died, or didn’t meet the customers expectations…chances are the reason they are hard to locate is BT/EE eventually realised it was a stupid decision to supply them and stopped their manufacture changing to the much simpler DV adapter.

Consider if you were a Sky , Vodafone or Talk Talk customer (and many others ) , they also would provide their telephony service via the their router but supply no equipment for you to use , you woukd be on your own as far as that were concerned.

It’s now been said multiple times , a DV phone is just a DECT cordless phone , it clearly needs mains power to keep its battery charged via its base unit or cradle if it’s a multi phone system.

A DV phone has a single button to listen to any messages left on the 1571 answering service , a non DV phone would need to dial 1571 to do the same , that’s about the extent of the advantage a DV specific DECT cordless phone has over a regular DECT cordless phone , but importantly, they all work with DV

I take your point - and I know it works as my main phone, by the way it is a DECT BT8600 (moved from kitchen to router) still connects to the one upstairs, which is just plugged into a mains socket.

I saw the so called new phones advertised and even now on the EE website and thought - that's the way to go but couldn't find them. I know sometimes if you use EE/BT products, any issues and they can't blame another provider.

I will just order the BT premium 3 handsets and go that way! (unless someone think another phone is better)?

So just for clarification. I buy these three, one of the phones - preferably the main phone, will have to be plugged in via the adapter (if not in the router), the other two will just connect using DECT tehcnology when register the handsets (as the BT8600 now)?

If you don't want to plug the base station into the hub, then yes, plug it into a conveniented located adapter which will be exactly the same as plugging it into your old phone socket.

Alternatively, just register the handsets directly to the hub so you don't need an adaptor at all.

There is no concept of 'main' phone, they are 3 handsets connected to a DECT base station. Your upstairs phone is just sitting in a charging cradle.

As already posted, DV handsets are available from Amazon.
