Our current contract expires on the 22nd June this year. However, we are going to be selling our house and moving to Dumfries and Galloway which should be around July/August this year.

It looks like there are a lot of areas that do not support Fibre Broadband so we are concerned that we continue our contract with BT and are then unable to take it with us. What happens if that is the case? Can the contract be cancelled at no cost to us or are there other BT options

My wife works from home so we need a good Broadband speed and connection

Thanks folks

You would have to accept whatever BT can offer, but there may be options to upgrade to fibre at a later date. Bear in mind that its Openreach that provide the network, so unless there is an alternative fibre provider, you are going to have the same problem whichever provider you use.

If you are out of contract by the time you move, then you are free to find an alternative provider that does not use Openreach.

When you know what address you are moving to

If you do, then use the address checker on the page below, and post the results, but edit out your address details first.

TBH , if your minimum term is up in June , and you expect to move two months later , then paying for two months at the ‘out of contract price’ shouldn’t amount to much, you then can take service from whoever you like when you move, but as already stated, if Openreach are the only network provider where you are moving to , then whoever you use ( unless you use mobile broadband ) will provide pretty much the same speed as BT , as they would all be using Openreach technology

As far as taking a new contract in June and getting a lower speed at the new address , that isn’t reason enough to be excused early termination charges, the condition is that BT could supply service , not that the new service would at least be as fast as the previous service , but without knowing the new address and checking it’s predicted speed , it may all be irrelevant anyway.
