I and my neighbour have been contacted by UP Connect/Gigaclear about installing fibre broadband to our properties. I can't ascertain whether they are they as agents of BT or if they are they wanting to install an alternative service to the proposed BT fibre broadband roll out .

Gigaclear are nothing to do with either Openreach or BT, they install their own infrastructure. If they've done so in your area then it's unlikely that Openreach will duplicate that, so BT FTTP won't be available.

OR will eventually have their own FTTP everywhere, even in places where the competition get their network installed first , the only difference is that competitors can use OR infrastructure, but retain exclusive rights to their own network, than means , if excavation etc is required , then the roads and paths may get dug up several times , if multiple network providers decide to cover the area .
