Will FTTC Broadband be affected from Switch Over?

I am currently on "Fibre Halo 3" broadband package.
I was under the impression that with the upcoming switch over (end of 2025) there won't be any copper service anymore, just "Full fibre" so classic phone/landline AND my broadband won't work after that date (or earlier) and I HAVE to switch to "Full fibre" ffor my broadband and DV fpr phone.
I am not sure now that this assumption is right, at least regarding broadband.
So my question is, can I keep my current broadband afte switch over? Or will BT insist that I change to "Full fibre" (which is already available in my area).

Thanks, Tom

You will stay on FTTC for your broadband but you will need to have Digital Voice or some other digital phone service if you want to keep using a phone. If you have a mobile phone you could just use that and do away with the phone package.

The end of 2025 is the end of PSTN , telephony equipment in the exchange, not the end of copper , if you are on FTTC , then the ‘telephone’ service, should you require one would be an ‘IP’ service over your FTTC broadband, all Openreach based service will be affected, with BT its called Digital Voice , and there is an ongoing programme to migrate customers onto DV, with all these IP services your phone would plug into the router , not the master socket , but the copper pair from the ‘cabinet’ into your home remains, your router effectively still plugged into the master socket,

This will be the case until such time FTTP becomes available, that , depending on location could be years away.

So if I read your post correctly, it will not be guaranteed that FFTC will remain active after the switch over, right?

The output from the ONT is proper ethernet. In other words, your router could be positioned up to 100m away from the ONT if you don't mind running some cat 6 between them. (Or possibly over the roof...no idea if that's actually viable)

Can't install any cables, WF doesn't allow it ...
The only way would be to use Powerline adapters (which is also mentioned it the other thread), but I am not sure if the ONT and Router like that ....

It should be do-able. As would a wireless mesh system.

The trouble is the cable/powerline bridge/wireless bridge would have to be dedicated to just that role, as that connection is technically still outside of your network and is part of the connection to the outside world. That is, it’s insecure etc.

There are people on here that know more about wireless mesh and powerline than me. I’m an old-fashioned techie. Real networks have wires. (I upset someone the last time I said that, so let’s put a big LOL on the end of that…I’m not being serious, people, so put the tar and pitch forks away).

If you want to remain on FTTC for the short to medium term ( even though FTTP is available to you ) that can be done , with the proviso’s, if you change provider or renew with a new minimum term with your current FTTC provider, the new provider or contract renewal with the existing ISP may trigger an unavoidable upgrade you to FTTP , the way that is avoided is by staying with your current provider but on the deal you are on, that could mean being on an out of contract basis and paying a premium for being outside a minimum term,….it’s also likely in the future ( but probably a good few years away ) FTTC will be withdrawn and anyone who has FTTP available but refuses OR FTTP will simply be told that they will lose the FTTC service and to look at alternative providers.
