All the help pages describing Fibre to the House ignore the physical installation of the fibre cable from BT gulleys into the owners property. How is this intrusive operation effected?

We are promised Full-Fibre will be available at speeds > 100Mbps but how?

No idea what you mean by BT gulleys.

Anyhow, how the fibre is delivered depends on a multitude of factors mostly dependent on how your copper is delivered. It might be delivered overhead from a pole if that is how your copper is fed or it will be delivered underground if that is how your copper is fed.

If your copper is delivered by ducting to your house, the fibre will share the duct. If your copper cable is directly buried in the ground, a trench will need to be dug and ducting laid to accommodate the fibre.

It will be Openreach that deliver the fibre, not BT.

Thank you 'distinguished sage'. You have answered with the details I expected.

By Gulleys, I mean the underground manholes and interconnecting pipes/gulleys out in the street.

We are connected by 1960's (untwisted) pair + earth conductor from the street to the house underground. Unfortunately these cables are not in a conduit (or ducting) as far as I can tell and appear to be just buried in the earth.

To dig up everyone's garden would be a massive undertaking. So I am cynical about whether this will ever happen without the subscriber contributing.

Thanks again.

Ian

If its soft dig and not a huge distance, it will happen without contribution.

Property built in the 1960’s through to the late 1980’s were DIG ( direct in ground ) , no duct .

When Openreach make these areas available to order FTTP , they either excavate the footpath outside the properties and leave a ‘Toby Box’ outside each property , should the property owner order FTTP , then a trench is excavated from that point to the house wall , if an order is never made , the trench is never provided.

Recently the process for theses areas has changed , less preparation work done in advance of an order , so should a property order FTTP , the duct is provided from a footway joint box to the house wall , no ‘Toby box’ is provided in advance of an order .

Checking your address with this checker site

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressFeatureProduct

Property that are currently DIG will differ , Toby box exists would say ‘built to curtilage, hard ,

ducting required from a joint box will be ‘ partial DIG ‘

The example below is for a modern property built with a fully ducted service

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Feed with no anticipated issues.
