Master phone socket upgrade with full fibre install

I'm thinking of upgrading to full fibre and am confused by this:

"With Full Fibre installation, we'll upgrade the master phone socket (the white box on the wall) and install an Openreach modem (ONT), which connects to the fibre optical cable that comes into your house."

Why would anything need to be done to the master phone socket when installing fibre? Aren't they completely independent?

yes the master socket is no longer used unless you are not moved to Digital voice which is unlikely. as long as Digital voice then master no longer needed

Hi @spuddles and welcome.

Thanks for posting. Both @imjolly and @licquorice are correct. The master socket is no longer used when full fiber is installed. I'd agree with @licquorice that the wording isn't great (thanks for the feedback).

TBH , that link has an image of a type of ONT that isn’t supplied any longer ( it shows a BBU , battery back up ) and telephone port on the ONT that was used for FVA ( fibre voice access ) again something no longer available.
The image shouldn’t exist but TBH there is other information available that is current , I dare say many websites that are extensive , will have pages that are no longer useful

Yeah, most likely relates to the redundant FVA, Fibre Voice Access Service.

As Installers we used to wire the NTE up to the old 4+2 or 1+1 Huawei ONT so you could continue to use your Phone Extension Sockets.
