I also have the BT premium email etc and never use the email on a web browser (just in thunderbird ).

Tpday I had a rather confusing letter with pictures and different colours on it from BT about EE. It seems very cleverly worded to try to trick people into changing things which immediately made me very alert. Underneath a sticky bit of the letter you have to peel off and look down it DOES say "what's next" which is the only bit in which I was interested. "Exciting times are coming" - God knows what that means - presumably m eans awful changes you don't want may be forced on you. "For now you don't need to do anything" so that implies later you will be forced to do thing that will take time and make things worse than now whether you like it or not.

Then ominously it says "we'll be in touch again soon to let you know how can move to a new EE with your own personalised offer". That relieved me slightly as it uses the word "can" i.e. that you are able to move but do not have to do so.

They then have a trap to steal your personal data in a sense in a bit next to that about taking part in a competition and say I am part of "the family". Such awful language - we are not a family. I have a business contractual relationship with BT plc which is a public limited company traded on the stock exchange trying to make as much profit as it can for its shareholders. It is nothing to do with families.

Then I went to FAQs mentioned on the letter which says

"What if I don’t want to switch to EE, can I stay on BT?

You don’t have to switch to EE until you’re ready. For now, you can choose to stay on BT, but we recommend moving to EE to get the best experience from us."

ghe words until you're ready are so very very confusing. If they said you will never have to switch that would be clarity. So if I am never ready for 50 years then I never have to switch - is that what they mean?

I cannot switch to EE from BT at the moment because I have a BT TV package.

Reading both BT and EE community forums has highlighted some potential consequences of switching, i.e. loss of Standard/Premium email and potentially BT Cloud. However, the EE forum has 2 conflicting posts, one saying BT Cloud is lost, the other says it is retained.

Please can I have a definitive statement from either a mod (or someone else from BT) that clarifies what happens with the BT Mail and BT Cloud when someone switches to EE.

I am aware that for anyone giving up BT Broadband there is a downgrade of BT Mail, but I am not sure whether it applies in the current situation where BT is actively encouraging people to migrate to EE.

Many thanks!

My reading of the above post, combined with others that I have seen imply that migrating customers are downgraded to Basic email unless they pay £7.50/month for Premium email. Basic email is only accessible via a browser and does not include multiple email accounts.

The statement about retaining email doesn’t make clear whether it is Basic or Standard.

If it is Basic, you keep your main email address, but can only access it via a browser. If you have multiple email addresses (like I do) then you lose them and the ability to access email via an app.

As you are moving from BT to New EE, for broadband, you will continue using your email in the same way.

If you had our standard email service with BT you will still have that on your New EE account.

If you had Premium Mail, it will continue but we would need to make sure that you aren't being charged. If you closed your EE account, we would resume billing for Premium Mail.

If you had Basic Mail, please contact us as we will need to change that to Premium Mail and remove the charges. If you closed your EE account we would downgrade your account to Basic Email.

It's important to note that you will need to continue using your MyBT account to manage your email service. It will remain a BT product and you won't be able to manage it under your new EEID.

Thank you
