Does that mean then that with this new DV system I will have to change Broadband supplier. Sorry, I am not familiar with this new system as I expect about 99.999% of ordinary people are.

Can I plug my existing TP-Link router into the green socket of the new BT hub. It used to be plugged into the phone line socket.

I don't think so!
The green socket on the SH2 is for plugging in a corded phone when you have been migrated to digital voice. This is instead of plugging the corded phone into the BT socket in the filter plugged into the BT wall socket.
Connecting the green socket to the RJ11 input on your TP-Link router won't achieve anything - it certainly won't enable the TP-Link to connect to the internet, if that is what you're trying to achieve

try reading the DV FAQ as that should help you understand more about DV

Thanks. Very helpful. Had to read it a couple of times though but that is no doubt due to 'anno domini' ...

If you want to keep your voice telephone and BT number then, under the BT's digital voice system, you will need to get your broadband from BT, because the DV service is carried over the broadband connection and you can't have more than one company using a single broadband connection at the same time.
If you're not currently getting your broadband from BT then you could stay with your existing provider and he might be able to offer a voice telephone service via "Voice over Internet Protocol" (VOIP), but you might not be able to keep your existing BT phone number.
