Hi,

Had full fibre installed yesterday and the engineer did not remove the line to the the telegraph pole or take away the old internal openreach broadband box.

Should they have? (and who is going to do this?)

Thanks,

AXW

If your new fibre drop wire is from the same pole as the copper pair , and attaches to the same bracket on the house wall , it seems odd not to recover the old wire while putting up the new one ( it’s not going to significantly add to the time to do the job ) but as far as is it compulsory ? , probably not .

It’s an issue for Openreach, not for your provider, although you could potentially raise it as a quality issue with BT , as far as recovering the old master socket , internal wiring etc , that’s probably not going to be done as you get into potential complaints about who is responsible for filling in the holes , redecorating etc…if the master socket etc. is now such an issue you are at liberty to remove it yourself as it’s not going to ever be used again.
Some evidence that a complaint to Openreach about the copper dropwire being left in situ has resulted in another visit to remove it .

Thanks Initious

Kelly (subs for openreach) did the install and bodged it no end on the wiring into the house, very poor work. I'm pursing on x/twitter with Openreach to get the old copper line removed.

AXW

Unfortunately, it seems to be the case that some contractors working for OR are much more likely to do the bare minimum , as they are paid on completions rather than a set salary, so doing the best job possible rather than the bare minimum comes with a personal financial cost ( like only getting paid for 3 jobs done in a day instead of 4 ) so they are more likely to avoid doing anything over and above the minimum ….thats not to say they are all like that , just that the financial aspect will be for some contractors the driving priority

Thanks - yes, I understand the situation with the subcontractors....unfortunately.

Getting the feeling the failure to remove the copper lines would make a good press story? Openreach has more than 4 million poles across the United Kingdom (according to Google) so that is a lot of copper (the new Oil) left in the air!
