The speeds are asymmetrical ( faster download than upload ) on the VF checker which suggests they are using Openreach rather than City Fibre , VF may already have sufficient capacity in their existing cable links , or may be prepared to over utilise what capacity they have ( so throughput may not be great ) or may take an order that they can’t really fulfill and simply give a long lead time for connection to give time to get cable links installed .
I did a quick check on Sky , they are also only offering FTTC , so the same as BT on that score .

Hi,

So the open reach website says I can get up to 1800 Mbps download speed but BT's website still only says 70 Mbps, what's going on I thought you guys use the same lines? is this just a waiting game now for BT to finally update to say I can get it or did something change and you no longer share lines?

Welcome to this user forum for BT Residential phone and broadband customers.

It probably referring to the speed you can get with EE.

EE are a separate company within the BT Group, but still use the Openreach network.

Use the address checker on the page below, and post the results, but edit out your address details first, but leave the exchange name and cabinet number showing.

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL
Please include all notes at the bottom.

You may find that the records havent filtered through or updated yet for BT's systems.

Bizarre as it may sound, when Openreach FTTP went live in my street I was unable to order from BT even though they put a flyer through my door advising me that I could. The Wholesale Checker that @Keith_Beddoe has posted showed that I could NOT order FTTP even though on Openreaches fibre checker I could.....also I'd been sent a blooming flyer from BT...i will be interesting to see what yours says.

Whilst the above was true, it was possible to order FTTP from Vodafone, Sky, Talktalk.... and various other companies, it was some 4 months at least before I was able to order FTTP from BT. I was never quite sure what records needed to be updated or why BT was so far behind the other ISP's, someone on here mentioned that BT use a different headend to TalkTalk, Sky, Vodafone etc...

Openreach provide the ‘fibre’ from the headend ( OLT ) to your address , and if they show FTTP availability that’s because this external network is available to order over ,

individual ISP’s or groups of ISP’s need to provide the connectivity between the OLT and their own internal networks using cable links within the exchange, occasionally OR FTTP is available before the necessary cable links have been provided or capacity increased to account for the extra bandwidth required, on these , it may be that BT ( wholesale ) who provide this for BT , need to provide or increase capacity hence no way to order BT , EE or Plusnet yet ….it’s normally resolved fairly quickly though .

Here was my post on it....

Basically the guys here said there was still work that might need to be completed:

Re: BT Need to Update Their Systems for FTTP Produ... - BT Community

However after BT Retail contacted Openreach time after time it was repeatedly pushed back as a database issue that was indeed effecting my entire post code, none of us could order BT/EE whilst we could go anywhere else on Openreach's network.

BT Retail even suggested that I should install a Copper Service which would then in turn magically update the records and I could upgrade it to fibre.....I refused this solution of course.

@iniltous it took 4 months plus from FTTP going live to BT allowing me to order, one week after Openreach completed the work the other ISP's were all there ready to go. As above, the worst past was Openreach and BT saying there is nothing left anyone needs to do and we dont know why the records arent up to date....
