All BT customers have ipv6 as standard.

You only need the BT router if you require telephony capability as it is required for BT's version of VoIP, Digital Voice.

Evening,

I want to apologize to bring yet another v6 topic up.

My current provider does not give v6 at all. I need to rely on tunnel broker(s) which comes with a bunch of disadvantages. I'm keen to replace this provider with BT if BT comes with v6 to all customers by default.

I did check and BT full fiber is available where I live.

I've VPSs and other stuff that I'm not able to switch to v6 only due to my current tunnel broker situation that I can't trust enough to switch v4 on my servers.

Can someone confirm that v6 comes OOTB with all BT broadband please?

Oh, and one more thing. I have my own router, SFP+ compatible, etc.

Do I need additional BT device and if so, then can I set that device to bridge mode please?

Apologies for bringing this topic alive again. My BT contract ended and I'm looking for options. One option is to renew with BT (EE). I've previous experience with an other BT subdivision (TalkTalk) and I'm afraid of subdivisions since.

long story short. as per topic. Do you know by any chance if IPv6 generally available to all BT (EE) customers?

Talk Talk is not a subdivision of BT.

Best to ask the question on EE and Plusnet forums, but I expect it is a available. I would certainly expect it to be available on EE.

@drill @Plusnet does not employ IPv6 for customers outside of a ‘trial’ which has been ongoing for some considerable time now. I’ve had IPv6 with BT and without on Plusnet. I fully understand the benefit of IPv6 over IPv4 going forward, but as things currently stand, it hasn’t made any difference as yet to me personally whether I have it or not.

Thanks for the heads up. Appreciate it.

I'm fully aware only a handful of people would care about it. It really depends on the use case.

I have VPS and hostings started charging extra for v4 on servers. I have had times when I had to use tunnel brokers when ISP didn't give v6.

Tunnels are like last resort for me. The IP you get and the exit servers geolocation can make websites not load due to country regulations etc. latency is another consideration. In short, it's pita.

Also, I do IT for work and hobby so being one step ahead is always recommended. I do lab projects and experiments on my homelab which includes networking. /56 prefix is needed for me for this reason.

Apologies for all the jargon. I can go hours on this topic 🙂

@drill I’m a sucker for listening to anything like that 😂

I spent the best part of yesterday (at time of posting), doing a reset on my PC after a BIOS update for the 2023 security certificate update that will ultimately affect millions of computers around the world. I find stuff like that extremely cathartic 😆 Thank goodness for Brave sync chain too, otherwise I’d have been miffed mucking around putting my browser back in sorts. Anyway, upshot is, I’ve now got a PC good enough once again, to send the next Apollo mission off to the moon.
