You are correct in thinking that FTTPod is not native FTTP , unfortunately there is no way to predict how long after a CBT is provided that it’s signalled to ISP’s that the addresses aligned to that CBT are able to order FTTP , the fact the Openreach tech said it’s ’live’ you would imagine means it’s a short period of time but ultimately it’s like asking how long is a piece of string .
All you can do is periodically check the BTw DSL or ISP checkers , once as far as the DSL checker, once it shows WBC FTTP as available you should be able to order with an ISP , provided that ISP has its own connectivity to the headend equipment.

A couple of weeks ago, an Opentrench van turned up and much to our delight said he was pulling fibre in to the box in the courtyard where we live in the middle of nowhere. Hurrah! It looked like an 8 way multicore termination box.

I had a chat before he left, he said it was now live, and we just needed to check the Openreach site and it should be ready to order, our chosen supplier would arrange the pull in of fibre for the last 20 metres to the houses around the box, happy days.

A few weeks have passed now and it still says "build planned 2026" on the Openreach site, how long does it usually take from build before they update the database?

I've not been able to access the btwholsale site as they turn it off during the wee small hours, but on the normal Opentrench site it has chnaged from "Build planned before Dec 2026" to "Not Yet Available" ... is there any significance to that?

Afraid not. I know of a small village that had the CBTs, new poles and fibre starting to be installed by Openreach from 2019 and these continued until 2022 but then stopped. It's still planned that the village will get it's Openreach Full Fibre installation completed but as you can see it's hard to say when it will be all completed and ready to accept orders.

Noted, the status on the btwholesale site has not chnaged either. A lot of the village had infrastrure pulled in by another provider, Zoom, and they have had service for around a year, so there is backhaul availabe I guess ... oh well, I'll keep checking!

Zoom has absolutely nothing to do with BT or Openreach , ( apart from they can leech onto Openreach infrastructure via PIA ( physical infrastructure access ) , so the presence of that Alternative Network (and whatever you mean by ‘backhaul’ ) is completely irrelevant as far as Openreach and by extension BT as concerned.

I thought Zoom used BT WPC over its 21CN network for backhaul, which would indicate to me that the local village exchange is connected to 21CN by somethign a bit faster than a twisted pair and wet string, possibly ready for a BT F.MSAN to be dropped in, but I'm just guessing .. probably incorrectly.

I did manage to check on btwholesale and nothing seems to have chnaged on my line status, but the "public" broadband checker does still say "not yet availabe" instead of "Build planned before Dec 2026" now ...

I was just hopeful that after seeing the BT guy install the 7 way BFT manifold just a few metres away, it wouldn't be long now ...

I presume you mean BT WBC ( wholesale broadband connect ) rather than BT WPC , but Zoom consume WBC like Sky and Vodafone and other do , VF use many network suppliers , and in areas where there is a choice between BTW and ( for example ) City Fibre , they prefer the alternative, basically WBC is FTTP ISP using Openreach FTTP and WBC to connect to their own backhaul, Zoom provides its own infrastructure , and nothing to do with Openreach , if they at some point use BTw as ‘transit’ ( and I don’t think they do , there are plenty of competitors offering this ) it has no bearing on OR FTTP availability .

No such thing as a 7 way manifold ( CBT , connector used block terminal ) so probably an 8 way , and that is promising that if you observed an Openreach ( not BT , BT are no involved in the external network ) installing this equipment that availability will ( hopefully ) be shown in the relatively near future, but occasionally plans change , CBT’s etc get fitted , but the service for whatever reason doesn’t follow quickly after that .

Worked a lot with BFT before Openreach switched to Connectorised Block Terminals and I never saw them use a 7 or 8 Fibre Manifold, I only ever saw 12 Fibre Manifolds.

When were they building it, I thought Openreach stopped using BFT Manifolds in favour of CBT’s long before I left, taking years.

Even in areas that already had BFT they would extend those builds using CBT’s and not Manifolds.

And interestingly, the "Available before Dec 2024" has not changed, but this week the "1800 mbps" has changed to "1600* mbps" ... and upload from "150" to "115*" which I am hoping means they have actually put a F.MSAN on the other end and these are vaguely tested values, which might indicate it is gettign closer to being available!

On the subject of “how long is the string…”, I seem to have the opposite experience.

I saw a guy pulling in fibre in the street about a fortnight ago. I assumed at the time it was CityFibre or Virgin, both of whom upgraded round here two years ago. Anyway, two weeks later I get an email from OR telling me FTTP is now ready to order. (I’ve had a declaration of interest registered for a couple of years).

As various people have said, there’s a lot more to it that just pulling the fibre in, so it takes the ISP’s a bit to catch up, but BT’s site acknowledged it’s available within a week. BT seem to think I’m daft enough to carry on paying the silly price I’m currently paying, out of contract, for this “free” upgrade, however. Looking at Sky’s site, Sky still don’t say its available even after a couple of weeks. (Of course, that could be lack of availability of headend equipment etc.)

Not terribly important to me, as I’m disinclined to move until the spring now anyway but shows how much it varies.
