That's really useful to know thanks - I originally reached out to Openreach on their website form and they informed me it was now available. However I'm with BT and I can't yet see an option for it , so hopefully that's soon and then I'll place an order.

Openreach MDU when no landlord or managing agent

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice on my situation. I live in Scotland and own a flat in a block of six owner-occupied flats. There’s no landlord or managing agent, just an informal close fund for common areas - as it's Scotland, all flats are technical freeholds.

OpenReach advised that Full Fibre (FTTP) is available but requires an MDU, and they’ve asked me to fill in a landlord interest form. How does this work when there’s no single landlord or agent? Does Scottish law allow one person’s consent, or is more needed? Information online seems scarce, and I was surprised FTTP was even an option here. Any insights would be appreciated!

Around here Openreach have placed the CBT on the back walls of the tenement flats and MDUs if not on a pole if already provided by an overhead cable, then usually feed the fibre drop cable through one of the back rooms.

If wayleave agreement is needed then it's usually a majority vote between the owners in the tenement if self factored.

Thanks for the reply! So it's not a completely unknown situation then. Do Openreach send letters etc to the respective properties, or should I get ready to knock on some doors?

Another aspect is asbestos register, I'm not aware of this existing and it seems to relate to the common areas.

As it’s only 6 Flats Openreach would class it as a 5-15 Build.

These are Reactive Builds as opposed to Proactive.

Reactive Builds are where Openreach will Build purely on the basis of an EU placing an Order for FTTP.

Proactive is where Openreach will directly contact the MA to ask permission to Build in their MDU.

So what I’m basically saying is all you need to do is place an order for FTTP and they’ll build it, if they can.
