Hi,

Thanks for the reply. First I never knew the team here no longer had account access. Why on earth did that happen?

Second of all. Openreach told me to log a call with my ISP. Hence why I am here. I am trying to put this through Openreach but being sent back to BT (ISP).

This should not be as difficult to get an engineer visit.

What now?

FTTP - Overhead Cable Clamp Broken At Property (2nd Time) Cable Sagging A Lot - Needs OR Fibre Team

Hi All,

For the second time my fibre optic drop wire clamp has failed at my property. Last year a couple of chaps attended from Openreach and they looked at the clamp, went up ladder etc... They could see that it had dropped a ton from my property to the pole. One of the workers went up and put the clamp back together and re cleated some cable etc...

He then said it was either never put on right or it is a faulty drop wire clamp. He did say if it were to happen again then a new clamp would be needed as it would have failed. I am now at that position again where the cable has once again slipped through the clamp (the clamp also now looks different - loose) Cable sagging again.

I am now back at the stage of requiring Openreach to attend and fix - Put on a complete new drop wire clamp hopefully. I imagine if the wind picks up the line is going to drop even further and it's already at the point where it is starting to pull on the building, cleats on wall will start to become strained again like last time.

Please can we arrange to get this fixed. I guess a private chat will be required by a mod, I am waiting.

Many thanks in advance.

I can imagine that's the case.

The issue with contacting on the phone is they seem to go on about WIFI even when trying to tell them about an external cable clamp issue. I can imagine the wrong type of engineer turning up without a ladder and without the actual equipment to remedy the issue. It concerns me!

The team on here were usually very good at communicating with you and got things sorted. So sad.

Got any pics of it?

Theres 1 or 3 Fibre Drop Cables they could’ve used and there’s 1 of 5 clamps they may have used.

If it’s slipping it’s possible they’ve used wrong clamp for the type of drop.

It's a flat cable twin type with fibre and copper. The clamp should be correct as the openreach team who repaired it last time never said otherwise. However, they did say there is a newer type of clamp they now use. I also believe they now using a round cable too.

But I am in believe it was the correct clamp type. Though, something has clearly gone wrong...again.

on the clamp they’ll be about an inch of colour on it, close to where it attaches to the eye bolt. The colour will be either Yellow, Orange or Purple.

Probs can’t see it now as it’s night but have a look tomorrow.

All i know is the bit the fibre cable goes into is steel? And then the bit that loops around the eyebolt is black. I guess it's all pressed on to the fibre cable then pulled when looped on so the clamp fastens. You may know better than me.

The engineers said its a flat cable with fibre and copper in it. They said that's what the contractors use and that's correct as far as I am aware.

The clamp as I described was installed by contractors and repaired once by Openreach and was OR engineers that told me all this.

Either way it's failed again so I guess the clamp could do with replacing.

If the Clamp looks like this one then it’s ROC Fibre, which is Fibre Cable only. Not a Fibre/Copper Hybrid.

If two Openreach Engineers are saying it is Hybrid then they’re either wrong or they have somehow managed to get a Hybrid Cable into that Clamp, which would amaze me as Hybrid Cable is a lot bigger/thicker then ROC Cable.

Regardless if it is ROC and you have one of the Clamps pictured below then it’s possible they’ve put the Cheese Grater (as we called it) the wrong way round, hence why the drop has slipped.

Morning, I would say it looks very much the same as that one. I don't know if there are any close variants. But that is along the right lines and the cable is flat.

they’d be better off swapping the ROC out for RFOD. Better Cable and Clamps are more secure.

That ROC always was awful, I avoided using it like the plague.

Problem with reporting it as a DRO is Openreach will just send the first person available to make it safe.

This Engineer won’t necessarily be an FTTP Trained Engineer and may just cut it down to make it safe and ultimately leave it up to the EU to report it again to the CP to raise it as an FTTP Fault in order to get a Fibre Trained Engineer out to replace it.

Agreed and I am desperately trying to avoid that scenario and trying to get the right team out first time to hopefully fix the current set up.

Why must it be this tricky?
