ONT location within house.

Hi

Recently had Fibre Broadband installed. The ONT & Router has been installed in a location in sitting room that is unsightly (Mrs is not amused). The Openreach connection box is mounted on the outside wall directly behind the ONT so the Fibre Cable run to ONT is about 1 meter long.

Question is, can I purchase a 15 meter fibre cable extension and run from outside connection box to more suitable location inside. I can get under the floor easily enough. Not sure how the fibre is connected outside house, is it spliced or is it an SC/APC at both ends? Not at home presently to check.

Appreciate any thoughts / guidance.

You cannot move the ONT yourself and need to contact ISP BT and they will get openreach involved and advice you of cost involved in moving ONT

It’s spliced at the CSP ( the external wall block ) only the end at the ONT has a plug SC/APC connector, so you can’t replace it yourself unless you have access to and can use a fusion splicer and can get an appropriate replacement optical cable ( some genuine ones do appear on auction sites etc ) but doing yourself isn’t really doable , you could just move the router using a longer Ethernet cable , although the ONT will be in the same place ( stick a plant pot in front if it ) , or as stated , you can , via your ISP , get Openreach to relocate the ONT it’s around £100+vat plus whatever the ISP adds on for arranging it ( ONT internal shift )

https://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/products/pricing/loadProductPriceDetails.do?data=hcaYjIWegP2u2KS8FTdcOBScuIM1Opem5f8dVePnh8UlMnGHsqdC0vzO163bJmh34D91D7M0q8u%2FIlSgtIFAKw%3D%3D
