ONT move request

Hi all, I have a situation where I would like to move my ONT from the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs living room. I am converting this bedroom to my daughter's room and wouldn't prefer having the wifi hub in her room.

I thought about buying an ethernet cable, but this wouldn't work out as I have to take it down via stairs, hallway, and then to the living room. BT provided me with an option to use Wifi discs to cover the downstairs and the rear end of the house, but it will still leave the hub in my daughter's bedroom.
Please note that I am already using Powerline adaptors from the hub to connect my TV in the living room downstairs, as the WiFi discs haven't been helpful.

I do understand moving the ONT is not an easy task. I am happy to pay, but this will be the last option. So, what are the other effective options without degrading the speed?

Are there any other devices similar to Powerline Adaptors?

Speak to BT, they can request an ONT shift from Openreach.

how are you supplied just now from a pole? is the existing bedroom with ONT at back of home and living at front of home which makes cabling difficult

No, physically moving an ONT is easy.

The difficult part is you having to jump through hoops for weeks on end trying to convince your ISP, who I assume is BT or EE to send someone out!

@imjolly , the bedroom is in the front, nearer to the pole. Whereas, the living room is at the centre of the property.

The line from the ONT to the router is Ethernet so if your Powerline adapters work for router to TV they may work for ONT to router. A limitation might be that the powerline adapters are not gigabit speed so may not be able to cope in which case you would need to try some gigabit PL adapters (make sure you can return them if they don't work for you).

As stated , if it’s the router rather than the ONT that you want to remove from the room , simply provide the means to locate the router elsewhere, including powerline adapters, as you already have some of these you could temporarily repurpose them to connect the ONT to the router in its new location to see if there is any noticeable difference in performance

@iniltous , @countrypaul, thanks a lot for getting back! I already have 'TL-PA7017', a 1000GB PL Adaptor that I am using for my downstairs television. I did try to connect the router/hub to it, but the speed dropped from 425 Gbps to 30-40 Gbps.

@JacksonBilly a 1000GB/s internet link for home use is very impressive how much does it cost you🤣 most are lucky to get a 1GB/s link.

PL links are a little hit and miss in terms of throughput but at least you tested it and be reasonably confident it is not an appropriate solution for you.

@countrypaul , I completely messed the speed up 🙂 its all in megabytes and not Gigabytes 🙂
Yes, I don't think the PL adaptors are helping me 🙂

@JacksonBilly I hate to disappoint you but you will find it is only Megabits not Megabytes🙄
