I have just placed an order for full fibre broadband with BT and generally the process was straightforward.

However, I then got a text from Openreach asking me to confirm the appointment by texting "YES" back. When I tried to do so, the reply would always say "Not sent".

I tried Googling the problem and found that scores of other people had had the same issue. Presumably Openreach know that there is a problem but still continue to use the system. As it happened, it didn't matter as I got an email which I could reply to.

Nevertheless, does anyone know what the issue is, why Openreach don't sort it and whether there is a "work around"?

The issue is generally because folks have disabled sending texts that have a cost on their phones.

licquorice,

That's an interesting point that you make, but I don't think that I understand it. In what way is the Openreach number any different from the numbers of my other contacts to whom I can send texts normally. I don't see anything to suggest that it is a premium number.

Licquorice

Thank you for that link. However, I put the Openreach number into the search bar and it drew a complete blank, which suggests to me that it is not a number which attracts additional charges.

In any event, I cannot think that Openreach would use such a number as it is in their interests that people should be able to respond to their emails.
